National Taipei College of Business (NTCB: 國立臺北商業技術學院) is a National Co-Educational College located in downtown Taipei City, Taiwan. In Taiwan, it is colloquially known as Beishang (北商) and is the first and oldest college specializing in business and finance in Taiwan. The College boasts a history of almost 100 years. The number of alumni has reached hundreds of thousands. Most of them work in business and industrial sectors.

History

The School was originally founded in 1917 under the Japanese occupation, and was named “Taiwan Commercial School of the Governor's Office.” Later in 1921, the school’s jurisdiction was transferred to Taipei County and was renamed as “Taipei County Commercial School.” n 1922, “Taipei County Commercial School” was renamed and a night program was established. It was soon expanded into “Taipei County Second Commercial School.” After the retrocession of Taiwan from Japan to China in 1945, the two schools were renamed as “Taiwan Provincial Taipei First Commercial School” (day program) and “Taiwan Provincial Taipei Second Commercial School” (night program). In 1949, The First and Second Commercial Schools were merged and renamed as “Taiwan Provincial Taipei Commercial School.” As Taipei was promoted to the level of “Special Municipality” in July 1967, the school’s jurisdiction was transferred to the Taipei City Government, and was renamed as “Taipei Municipal Commercial and Vocational school.” In August 1968 the college was reorganized into a junior college, named “Taipei Municipal Junior College of Business.” The college’s jurisdiction was transferred to the central government in July 1982 and was renamed as “National Taipei Junior College of Business.” The junior college was reorganized into a technical college in August 2001 and was named as “National Taipei College of Business” (NTCB).[1]
