Sheet music?
Can someone post the notes for this tune? The one that I have in my head doesn't fit some of the lyrics posted here. --Slashme (talk) 10:50, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
- Go to the linked midi file: [1]. As you note, some of the variants will require a change in the melody. - Nunh-huh 22:47, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
OK, thanks! --Slashme (talk) 05:44, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
Variants
The one I always heard was "The girls in France did a hochie-koochie dance / And the pants they wore cost a dollar eighty-four"... AnonMoos (talk) 00:03, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

This Page Plagiarized My Web Site
On February 19, 2000, I posted an article on my web site at http://www.shira.net/streets-of-cairo.htm with my research on this song. I was very dismayed today to visit this article and discover that it has copied large amounts of information from my original article.
Compare the section of this Wikipedia article titled "Later popular songs that include all or part of the melody include:" to the section on my page titled, "In the Strangest Places" songs section and you'll find that wiki contributors have copied EVERY song I listed there. Some of the songs I listed are VERY obscure, and it is only remotely likely that Wiki contributors would have stumbled on these by themselves.
Compare the section of this Wikipedia article titled "Appearances in Cartoons" with the section on my page titled "In the Strangest Places" under cartoons and you will see that each and every one of my entries has been copied into this article. - Hi, and thanks for your note. Under U.S. copyright law, lists of information cannot be copyrighted, only the stylistic presentation of said lists. If your phrasing has been copied, then point out where and I'll change that right away.
- It is, however, reasonable to request that we point out where we got this information, and as it was obviously obtained from your site, I have added it to the "references" section and footnoted it. I hope this will address your concerns adequately.—Chowbok ☠ 15:24, 17 September 2009 (UTC)
National Anthem of Morocco
Is it relevant that the melody of the national anthem of Morocco really fits the Western stereotype of music from Arab cultures? (For the anthem, see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QgSbF0LzGNY&feature=related.) Like the Asian riff, these are demonstrable stereotypes, like it or not.... --Dpr (talk) 11:14, 22 February 2010 (UTC)
Original
Shouldn't the original lyrics be put up? It seems to be on the above webpage (I'm not sure if that's truly the original, though). I usually associate this song with a cartoon of an Egyptian dancer, like so: [2]. I think it is used in some children's cartoons/computer games. --68.193.135.139 (talk) 02:38, 29 September 2010 (UTC)
