2010 Grand Slam of Darts

The 2010 Grand Slam of Darts will be the fourth staging of the darts tournament, the Grand Slam of Darts organised by the Professional Darts Corporation. The event will take place from 13-21 November 2010 at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall. Television coverage of the tournament will be covered by ITV Sport, with live coverage on ITV4 and highlights on ITV1.

Qualifying

There are numerous tournaments that provide qualifying opportunities to players. Most tournaments offering a qualifying position for the winner and runner-up of the tournament, however the World Championships and the Grand Slams offers a place in the tournament to all semi-finalists. There are also various other ways of qualifying for overseas players, including those from Europe and the United States, as well as a wildcard qualifying event open to any darts player.

The PDC have decided to no longer invite Martin Adams to the Grand Slam due to his decision to turn down three consecutive invitations in 2007, 2008 and 2009.[1]

Other Methods of Qualification

Additional invitations to compete in the 2010 Grand Slam of Darts will be awarded to (in order of preference):[2]

  • Top four players from ITV Wildcard qualifier
  • Highest non-qualified player from PDC Order of Merit
  • Highest non-qualified player from Players Championship Order of Merit
  • Highest non-qualified player from European Order of Merit

ITV Wildcard

The ITV Wildcard qualifier will be held on November 5, 2010 at the Metrodome in Barnsley. Any darts player is able to enter and the top four players will receive invitations to the 2010 Grand Slam of Darts.[2]

PDC Order of Merit

The highest non-qualified player from the PDC Order of Merit will receive an invitation should there be a place in the 32-player field left to allocate.

Players Championship Order of Merit

The Players Championship Order of Merit ranks all PDC players by their winnings in 2010 PDC Pro Tour Players Championships.

The highest non-qualified player from the Players Championship Order of Merit will receive an invitation should there be a place in the 32-player field left to allocate.

European Order of Merit

The European Order of Merit ranks all the European dart players based on the amount of prize money that they have won from tournaments held in continental Europe.

The highest non-qualified player from the European Order of Merit will receive an invitation should there be a place in the 32-player field left to allocate.

Qualified Players

Qualification has changed from the 2009 event, with the winners of two BDO tournaments, the Women's World Championship and the Winmau World Masters, no longer being invited. Instead, four places have been made available for the finalists of two new tournaments, the PDC Under-21 World Championship and the PDC Women's World Championship.[3] Twenty-three players have qualified for the tournament so far:
