Names in different languages

The author seems quite confused about the forms in different languages. I have made a list with the original Italian forms and their counterparts in other languages I think are relevant. The names in the first row are the oldest forms I know about. The name “Franciscus” is Latin while the name “Karl” is probably Proto-Germanic.

Language Franciscus Karl
Italian Francesco Carlo
French François Charles
Spanish Fransisco Carlos
English Francis Charles

Since this man lived at the time Corsican defined itself as a language I think Corsican forms would be relevant too. Can anyone else tell?

Birth year

With so much known about Francesco how can someone mistake his age with as much as nine years? In this case I am inclined to believe “Assassination at St. Helena” by Sten Forshufvud and Ben Weider. According to this book Francesco was born in 1779. However, the 1780 date seems completely plausible to me. The author ether made a typing error or he or she did not realise the implications of what he or she wrote.

Portrait

The best portrait of him I have seen can be found here. The drawing has no copyright. If it originally had any it has expired by now.
