The New College (Tamil: புதுக்கல்லூரி) is an institute of higher education in Chennai, South India. Established in 1951, the institution is one of the constituent colleges of the University of Madras enjoying an autonomous status. The college was established by MEASI (Muslim Educational Association of Southern India) to meet the educational requirements of the Muslim students in South India.
Location
The college is located in the center of Chennai on a 15-acre (61,000 m2) campus. It is one of the few colleges in Chennai located within the city hub. The older buildings are notable for their Indo-Saracenic architecture which stand in contrast to the new educational blocks. The older buildings are now being renovated. The same campus also houses New College Institute of Management, MEASI Academy of Architecture and Institute of Research in Soil Biology & Bio-Technology.
Founded in 1951 by the Muslim Educational Association of Southern India(MEASI), by the grace of Allah,The New college is one of the leading institutions of higher education offering instruction in more than twenty courses in humanities,science and commerce at the undergraduate level and more than twelve courses at the postgraduate level.Though primarily established for providing higher education to Muslim students,its doors are open to deserving students from all communities.With a view to inculcate greater moral and cultural values,deeniyath classes for Muslim students and moral instruction classes for others are conducted during working hours.
Courses
The New College has progressively developed into one of the leading institutions of higher education offering instruction in 23 courses in Humanities, Sciences and Commerce at the Under graduate level and 10 courses at the Postgraduate level [1]. The institution is noteworthy for its research in soil biotechnology. Further it offers Visual Communication course.It is also one of the few institutions in Chennai offering Arabic language studies up to the Masters level. The college has kept pace with changes and has recently introduced several courses in technology and management.

Extra curriculum
The college boasts its representation in university sport teams through decades and a few making it to the national team too. Apart from sports the college also features members of various student volunteer organisation including NCC, NSS, YRC and Rotaract club of New college [2]]].
The NCC has two division here. One is Armoured Squadron and another one is Batalion. 1 TN ARMD SQN NCC is deals with the Tanks. The students in Armoured squadron NCC has an opportunity see the tanks and drive it. They also can have an opportunity to know the mechanism of Armour Tanks and Riffles. The NCC Armoured Squadron NCC in New College is led by Captain.M.Anees Ahmed. He is a very good scholar. He is one of the senior professor in Physic Department of New College. The Batalion troop cadets have an opportunity to deal with Riffles and signals...
Campus culture
The culture within the campus of this college is of much controversy than most other colleges in Chennai. Ragging had been cause of disturbance for decades and curbing of which has not been much possible by the administration mainly because the location of the campus aids as a selective advantage. However ragging has now been put under control with strict disciplinary activities.
Nevertheless, in spite of the college being run by a Muslim management and an overwhelming Muslim majority within both staff and students, no complaints of religious intolerance or racism has ever been reported. The campus is quite cosmopolitan with students from all over India and abroad, especially from Islamic nations such as Saudi Arabia, Oman, Sudan, Malaysia and Bangladesh.
The college conducts elections to select Students Chairman & General Secretary shows its democratic nature and it is a notable event where all the students are free to elect their representatives. Critics claim that the students who win here are backed by the local political parties and often use violence or threats of it to garner votes or discourage opposition.
MEASI Institute of Management
On 22 October 1987,MEASI institute of management was established by the Muslim Educational Association of Southern India(MEASI) to impart training in different disciplines of management with emphasis on practical application suited to Indian environmental and management requirements.

MEASI academy of architecture was established on 21 October 1999 by the Muslim Educational Association of Southern India (MEASI). It is one of its kind in our country. It offers quality education relevant to the current and projected needs of the society. Besides imparting knowledge, it also fosters cooperation between the academic and the professional communities.
The MEASI academy of architecture is centrally located in the heart of city,inside the New college campus,in a well-designed modern building.It consists of well light and ventilated spacious studios and classrooms.
