Template:Chinese name Template:Infobox Chinese-language singer and actor Yu Nan (Chinese: 余男) (born September 5, 1978) is a Chinese actress. Born in Dalian, Yu Nan studied at the Beijing Film Academy, where she graduated in 1999.

Film career

Her feature film debut, in Lunar Eclipse (1999) started her career working with several of China's Sixth-Generation film directors. She has since appeared in three more movies by director Wang Quan'an: Jingzhe, which earned her the Golden Rooster Awards for the Best Actress, and the prize of the Paris International Film Festival in 2003;[1] Tuya's Marriage (2006), which won the Berlin International Film Festival's Golden Bear award in 2007 and she won the Best Actress prize from the Chicago International Film Festival; and in 2009's Weaving Girl, which won Jury Special Grand prix and the FIPRESCI prize from the Montreal World Film Festival the same year.[2] Wang and Yu also had a ten year romantic relationship together which ended in 2009.[3]

In 2008 she appeared in In Love We Trust, from director Wang Xiaoshuai, which won the Best Screenplay Silver Bear in Berlin the same year.[4]

In 2009 she played in the Chinese Western Western Sunshine (无人区) from director Ning Hao.[5]

Helped in part by her fluency in both Mandarin, French and English,[6] she has appeared in several international productions, including the French film Fureur (2003), the Taiwanese film My DNA Says I Love You (2008), Diamond Dogs (2007) and Speed Racer (2008) from the Wachowski brothers.
