Marco Betta

Marco Betta (born July 25, 1964) is an Italian music composer.

Biography

Marco Betta, author of operas, string and chamber orchestra music, theatre and cinema soundtracks, has studied composition at the Conservatorio di Palermo with Eliodoro Sollima. Afterwards he improved his studies with Armando Gentilucci and Salvatore Sciarrino.

His debut came out in 1982 at the Festival Spaziomusica of Cagliari, thenceforth his compositions are regolarly performed in the main Italian and European institutions. His musical language links old sicilan cultures with the main tecniques of the contemporary music, in particular the minimalist and the neotonalist genres.

Since 1994 until 2002 he has been the artistic director of the Teatro Massimo Vittorio Emanuele working on the project for the re-opening of the theatre, which happened after 23 years on may 12, 1997 with a concert of the theatre chorus directed by Franco Mannino and the Berliner Philharmoniker Orchestra directed by Claudio Abbado.

He is a teacher of Composition at the Conservatorio of Palermo.
