Wikipedia:Campus Ambassadors

Wikipedia Campus Ambassadors are volunteers who help recruit new Wikipedia contributors, participate in real life activities in support of free knowledge, and help teach students on school and university campuses how to be Wikipedians. Their key roles include giving in-person assistance to teachers who want to incorporate Wikipedia assignments into their classes and giving introductory Wikipedia lessons to students.

Campus Ambassadors are part of the Wikipedia Ambassador Program being piloted through the Public Policy Initiative; they currently include university students, staff, and Wikipedians who volunteer to assist professors who want to include Wikipedia editing in their curriculum.

Campus Ambassadors will:

1. Consult with the professor around the assignment
2. Support student learning around Wikipedia
3. Represent Wikipedia and the Ambassador program
4. Teach the students the information in the Wikipedia modules
5. Communicate with other stakeholders (Wikimedia Foundation, fellow Ambassadors, etc.)

Getting involved

• Teachers and professors - If you are interested in working with Wikipedia Ambassadors to run Wikipedia assignments in your classes, add yourself as an "Interested instructor" on the interest list for your school or university. If your institution is not listed yet, you can add it to this page.

• Interested ambassadors - If you want to be a Campus Ambassador, please add yourself as an "Interested Campus Ambassador" the school or university at which you are available. If it is not listed yet, you can add it to this page. You can also get involved with the Wikipedia Ambassador Program by applying to become an Online Ambassador, which is open to friendly and experienced Wikipedians and does not require attending an ambassador training event.

Campus ambassador training events will occur in different regions of the U.S. in early January 2011, and likely before or after Wikimania 2011 in Haifa as well.
