Baltimore area bus routes

I see that you said you take pictures of Baltimore area buses. What pictures of MTA buses do you have? It would be nice to place them in the respective articles on those routes. I have some, but I am looking for a lot more. There are some areas of town I seldom travel to. Sebwite (talk) 02:55, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Volunteer opportunity in Bethesda, Thursday, July 16

The Wikimedia Foundation will be conducting an all-day Academy at the National Institutes of Health, in Bethesda, Maryland, on Thursday, July 16. The team that will be teaching at the Academy, a mix of paid staff and volunteers, is looking for four more volunteers to be teaching assistants, providing one-to-one assistance in workshops whenever a workshop participant has a problem following the instructional directions. (We currently have two editors signed up as teaching assistants, and are looking for a total of six.)

The NIH editing workshops are only for two hours, but volunteers are asked to meet the Wikimedia Foundation team at the hotel in Bethesda at about 7:15 a.m. (time to be finalized shortly) and to stay for the entire day, which ends at 4:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided. (The full schedule can be found here.)

The team is not necessarily looking for expert editors (though they are welcome), just people who can help novices who might get stuck when trying to do some basic things. If you've been an editor for at least 3 months, and have done at least 500 edits, you probably qualify.

If you're interested, please send John Broughton an email. If you might be interested, but would like further information, please post a note on his user talk page, so that he can respond there, and others can see what was asked.

CSD#A1 isn't exactly appropriate for speedy on that. But I'm not an admin, and won't remove it. Actually, given the number of AFDs that article has been to, I think WP:CSD#G4 would be more appropriate and more likely to gain some attention. There have been others as well, such as Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ed, Edd, n Eddy's Big Picture Show, which should lend credence to G4. Yngvarr (t) (c) 16:07, 5 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Pictures of buses

I contacted you about this once before, but I don't know if you got the message.

I remember reading somewhere that you said you take pictures of MTA buses. I also noticed you have taken interest in some of the articles on MTA bus routes.

I have been trying to take pictures of buses on every route for a long time, but I am not often in the areas of all these lines, and even when I see a bus, it is not always easy to take a picture of one. It is difficult to take a picture of a moving bus, and obviously, I cannot snap a shot while driving.

If you have some pictures of MTA buses that you can add to these articles, that would be great. Sebwite (talk) 00:38, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bus route maps

You did a great job adding bus route maps to many MTA routes, as well as making other updates to MTA articles.

I noticed that you placed the public domain tag on these maps. While it is acceptable on Wikipedia to use a subject's images in articles about that subject (fair use), I cannot see "public domain" as being the correct status here. If not correctly labeled, these images may be in danger of deletion.

While they may be in the public domain, given they are produced by a government agency (I am not a lawyer, so I don't know for sure), they are not something you have created yourself, and that should be clarified.

Keep up the good work! Sebwite (talk) 01:59, 11 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

To be honest, I'm not really sure what the maps should be under. I thought since I put the picture together (from the PDF, then saving it as an image), it would be okay to put them under that license. Now I'm not sure. Any suggestions?--Lamborghini man (talk) 04:11, 11 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know myself. I have had the same issue before. One time, I tried putting the cover of a bus schedule in an article, and it got deleted for copyright reasons. I do not even know who to ask. Sebwite (talk) 14:04, 11 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'll give it a shot if you don't mind. The Route 5 map really isn't PD because it's made by local government, not federal government. I'd like to know where it came from so I can figure out what if any copyright is held upon it. For now, tag it with {{Non-free fair use in}} and we can find out what to use later, don't forget to add a rationale as well. treelo radda 14:32, 11 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Same applies to all other bus route images. Sebwite (talk) 20:18, 11 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Here is the to the map[1]. And this is the link to all the others. [2]. Thanks for the tip Treelo.--Lamborghini man (talk) 21:01, 11 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm dragging up nothing right now regarding copyright on anything that they release as is usual with some slow governments so it's usually implied that a full copyright does apply with this sort of thing. If you're going to want to get them cleared (as permissive free use is substantially better than fair use ever could be) then it'll require emails, calls maybe, getting written permission from the MTA then sending it off either digitally or through the post to OTRS so they have a record and then you can use them free as you like. If you don't decide to take the "lot of work for a bunch of maps" route the the tags on these images are genuinely invalid given you can create free versions of them even if everything else applies.
Let me pose a question, what does the inclusion of the map offer that the article wouldn't otherwise say via a link? Sure people wouldn't see it straight away but it is only one click away. From what I'm getting looking at comparable bus route/transportation authority articles most directly link to the PDF of the route or cite it, they never include it in the body for much the same reasons I outlined above. It's a great deal less hassle to simply link to the PDFs than create images then upload those here and also it seems that there is a generally accepted consensus that is the done thing. You could use WP:RDT if you want to put in a little effort into creating something that can be used freely and relatively easily but the images as far as I see it are a no-go, sorry. treelo radda 22:30, 11 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't even think about just providing a link to the maps. LOL. I feel so stupid right now. That would be a much easier, and a much safer (copyright) way to go about it. I'll just provide direct links from now on--Lamborghini man (talk) 23:17, 11 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There seems to be a problem with East End. No matter what you type, it'll always says East End. I don't get it. Here is one of them. No matter what you type in, it will always say East End. I don't get whats wrong. Route 23 (MTA Maryland) is just one of them.--ETLamborghini (talk) 14:15, 18 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've been having the same problem with it. I know how to create and edit many different kinds of templates, but I have always struggled with infoboxes. Before this one was built, I asked lots of people to build one like this before User:Nima Farid finally did. This one still has its kinks that have to be worked out, and several people have tried. In the mean time, the proper entries should be included, and hopefully when this is resolved, they will automatically show up. One possibility is for an infobox expert to rewrite it completely. Ultimate Alien/Evolution

Dwayne McDuffie is a Facebook friend of mine and he has confirmed to me that Ultimate Alien is the title of the next Ben 10 series. Regarding CARTOON NETWORK.svg...

I can't see anything. I try to view it, but no thumbnails are in view.

Anyways, I'm sure you know that Cartoon Network has recently changed its branding, which is why you made that file. BTW, where'd you find it? What program (s) did you use to make it?

You're not the only one with SVG problems...

I've uploaded File:Sunrise company logo.svg for Sunrise (company), twice, but it still shows an unwanted black square.

I've already placed an orphan tag today. However, you can try to download the file and edit it using the same Vector program you used to make File:CARTOON NETWORK.svg. And if this ends up in success, could you remove the orphan tag and place the file in the article, please? Thanks.

Never mind. I just uploaded a new version of Sunrise company logo.png and added a Convert-to-SVG tag on there. Hope it's okay.

Your latest Baltimore area bus pictures

The latest pictures you have taken of some bus routes in the Baltimore area are great! I know you took them for the article MTA Maryland bus service, but I have also been able to use them in various articles on specific routes. What I like most about them is that they clearly display on the signs what route number they are.

I originally created many of the articles on Baltimore area bus routes. Since then, I have been trying as best as I can to get pictures of them. I find this very hard to do. First, it is so hard to get a picture of a moving bus. It just doesn't come out well on my camera phone. Secondly, I get around by car, and I cannot take pictures safely while driving. I do occasionally try when stopped at red lights. But often I am not camera-ready, and by the time I open that app on my phone, the bus is gone. Very often, in the rush to take the picture, I manage a lousy one. Many of my bus pictures, even planned ones, are lousy, since I have taken them mostly at unplanned opportunities, and not from a good angle.

I live in the Mt. Washington area, and the #60 bus goes by my street. Other buses that are nearby are the nos. 1, 27, 44, 53, 54, 58, 59, and 91. The new #18 is also nearby and I've been trying for a picture of it, but it has very limited service. Anyway, I remain in this section of town most of the time, and I rarely have opportunities while not a driver to take pictures of any others. So you have really helped out a lot.

The routes I have used your pictures for include nos. 14, 17, 46 and 51. These are great pictures!

I have managed to get shots of nos. 3, 9, 11, 15, 19, 24, 27, 44, 54, 56, 58, 59, 60, 61, 64, 77, and 120. Most of them are very poor quality, and there is always room for improvement of these. I took a number of others also that were such poor quality that they were deleted by others. I personally think the very best one I took was that of Route 60.

Others have taken pictures of nos. 33, 40, and 901, and the now defunct 6 and M-10.

Those still needing pictures or that could use good replacements are 1, 3, 4, 5, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 15, 16, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 27, 29, 35, 36, 44, 48, 50, 52, 53, 54, 55, 56, 57, 58, 59, 61, 64, 77, 91, 97, 98, and all 3-digit routes.

Thanks once again for all your help. Sebwite (talk) 14:05, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Also, I have a good #5 pic too. And that picture of 4105 with the 51 sign wasn't really on the 51. It was at the Bus Roadeo.--ETLamborghini (talk) 16:15, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Even if it is not a real 51, if it is an MTA bus that says 51, it will suffice for now.
Where is your #5 pic? I would love for it to be placed in that article.
I added a #97 pic today. I spent the day driving around the city today. I saw lots of buses, including #5. But I could not get pics of them because my car was in motion and it would have been too dangerous. I also saw nos. 1, 7, 13, 57, and 91. But unfortunately, I could not get them safely. The 97 came when I was stopped at a red light. It doesn't look great, but it'll do until a better one can be obtained. Sebwite (talk) 02:03, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Firebreather

I've noticed that you have reverted some edits on an article I created, Firebreather (film). I don't disagree with your decision to revert these. IPs (most likely kids who have watched the TV movie) Have constantly been editing the article since Firebreather's airing, sometimes false information (Like noting a theatrical release or that it was in 3D) has been added. I'm sure the amount of false edits so far is not enough for nomination for semi-protection right now, but in the future once more 9 year olds edit the article, it should be considered to semi-protect it. Thanks, 1Matt20 20:45, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

Sure, no problem.--ETLamborghini (talk) 01:48, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of pictures

I noticed you removed the existing pictures from some articles, including Route 56 (MTA Maryland), Route 58 (MTA Maryland), and Route 61 (MTA Maryland). Presumably, you felt these are not good quality. My question is, do you think it is better to leave them in until better ones can be obtained, or not use them at all? I would like to clarify this before reverting.

By the way, I like all the pictures you added to lots of other MTA articles. Sebwite (talk) 01:01, 8 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Why?

Cartoon network is a bigger company than William Street and it has a black and white theme. And there was nothing particularly bad about switching it. Do you have a specific reason for reverting it? Thanks,

The Lost Frontier

Hi there, I'm the one who has been trying to change the Jak and Daxter page and template to put The Lost Frontier in the respective spin -off sections. You recently left a message on my talk page saying that The Lost Frontier is not a spin off, but this is disproven by the fact that in the opening credits it says: "based on the franchise created by Naughty Dog." Please look at this, and I hope that you will give me the permission to change said articles accordingly. Thank you.--94.8.210.194 (talk) 20:38, 20 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
