Granddaughter speaks
The words below were authored by User:Eretzprevails, apparently a granddaughter of Rabbi Silver: I have lightly edited them for clarity.
"My grandfather, Rabbi Eliezer Silver, travelled to post-war Europe in my Father Dr Nathan Silver's Army Captain uniform. Dad was a Captain in Gen'l Patton's 3rd Army where he saw death and dying, 24/7 for 3 years. I was born 4 months before the Rabbi's Grand March in 1943. He single-handedly organized the march. I have a pcture of Grandfather meeting VP Walace.
When FDR closed the doors, Rabbi Eliezer Silver opened them with the Senior Senator from Ohio Sen Robert Taft. Until his death in 1968 he met with every president since William Howard Taft on matters Jewish. My Father, Dr Nathan Silver was a renowned cardiologist He was known as one of the finest diagnosticians. I Judy Silver (Shapiro), was Rabbi Silver's closest grandchild and the only one who spoke fluent 'Litvak" yiddish with him. We grew up in Cincinnati. I learned my activism early on. I married a leading Soviet dissident in Moscow, Russia, several months before Pres Richard Nixon's visit to Russia. That summer a committee throughout the country as well as abroad worked tirelesly. With the US government, the ever-present media exerted constant pressure, particularly Jim Peipert of AP, Ted Koppel at ABC, Sam Maull and hundreds of other journalists. Sen Taft, Sen Javits, Sen Henry 'Scoop' Jackson, Sen Percy et al and numerous Congressmen, the State Dep't, particularly Richard Davies, who was made Ambassdor to Poland and Jack Matlock who later became Amb to the Sov Union. Major Jewish organizations, especially the student Struggle For Soviet Jewry, college students throughout the country, the late Rabbi Marc Tanenbaum from the American Jewish Committee. Rabbi Eliezer Silver was an optimistic 'Army of One' who searched out Jews in post-war Europe, incuding Catholic orphabages and Boarding Schools. Rabbi Eliezer Silver's answer to Simon Wiesenthal's question at the DP Camp where he resided got him to go to morning prayes for the first time in decades.
He was truly a patriot and an activist, who learned quickly in the early 1900's when he immigrated to the US the power of he government and the power of the people."

David Silver
Presumably he did not succeed his father at Congregation in Cincinnati, but led is own congregation in Harrisburg, PA? If so it needs to be re-worded. Chesdovi 12:58, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
Eliezer Silver's role with B. Manischewitz
Note, the following information is based on my personal recollections. Anyone who can provide proper bibliolographic references is encouraged to do so.
Rabbi Eliezer Silver's son, Rabbi David Silver (then Rabbi of Congregation Kesher Israel of Harrisburg, PA) was involved with (I believe he headed)the Kashrus Board of B. Manischewitz, the matzoh manufacturer. R. David Silver once told me that he became involved following the death of his father, whom R. David said was the head of the Manischewitz Kashrus board, when Manischewitz asked R. David to take over. R. Eliezer evidently became involved because the Manischewitz headquarters and matzoh bakery were then in Cincinatti, OH where R. Eliezer was located. The company eventually moved its headquarters to Jersey City, NJ and has since relocated to Newark, NJ and Secaucus, NJ. When it had its own Kashrus board, Manischewitz did not state on its products the names of any of the Rabbis involved, instead stating something like "under strict Orthodox Rabbinical supervision." However, the company did provide an annual press release providing the names/pictures of the Rabbis as they renewed their supervision for the coming year. In addition, the company would provide a list of the supervising Rabbis upon individual request. Their supervision also covered Manischewitz wines, produced by Monarch Wines in Brooklyn, NY., a separate entity from B. Manischewitz. Monarch had the use of the name and the Manischewitz logo under a licensing arrangement with B. Manischewitz. Today, the products of the Manischewitz Company (part of TMCI Holdings) and the Manischewitz Wine Company (part of Constellation Brands) are produced under the Kosher supervision of the O-U, the Kashrus division of the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America, more commonly known as the Orthodox Union. 98.233.125.136 (talk) 15:45, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
Plagiarism of Reference Material
There seems to be a lot of plagiarism of references, which is a violation of Wikipedia and generally unethical. Would the people who are the custodians of this entry please take the time to make those changes, so I will not have to do it for you. Mgoodkat24 (talk) 22:31, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
