The 8th season of SpongeBob SquarePants was announced in December 2009[citation needed]. This season first aired on March 26, 2011 with Oral Report and A Friendly Game and it will consist of 26 episodes, bringing the number of episodes up to 178. Enchanted Tiki Dreams (145b) aired on June 19, 2010 which was supposed to be the season premiere, but it was announced that Season 6, ending in number 126 and Season 7, ending in number 152 both had 26 episodes, so Enchanted Tiki Dreams is actually a Season 7 episode.
Some time during season 8, SpongeBob SquarePants will overtake Rugrats as the longest running Nicktoon, (in terms of number of episodes) barring a Rugrats revival.
