Within the state of Andhra Pradesh , the word "Andhra" generally mean "Coastal Andhra" region.[1][2][3]. Coastal Andhra and Rayala'Seema' regions were part of Madras state before 1953, and were carved out to form Andhra state in 1953.[4] Telangana was merged with Andhra state to form Andhra Pradesh state in 1956.[5] In the context of Telangana movement, Seema-Andhra region(Seema+Andhra or the region that was part of Andhra state) sometimes referred as Andhra.[6][7][8] In 1972, there was a movement in Seema-Andhra region called "Jai Andhra"(or hail Andhra) asking for the restoration of Andhra state.[9] National media often mistakenly refers residents of Andhra Pradesh as people of Andhra.[10]
