Renameing

I propose renaming this article to Londonderry Line I am aware of that the city is called Derry on wikipedia but according to NI railways the line is called the Londonderry Line, not the Belfast to Derry line NI railways Route map C. 22468 (talk) 11:18, 25 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'd oppose this change as NIR regularly hop back and forth between names for the city. As seen here, were the timetable states Derry. Even the trains exterior electronic displays show both names. This one citation doesn't provide enough reason to contravene the naming dispute convention. --NorthernCounties (talk) 11:24, 25 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think renaming it would be the way to go as the current name states the route served and is least controversial (Or as least controversial as you can get on the whole Londonderry/Derry topic.) Perhaps you could see if there's consensus to have the opening paragraph state something along the lines of ("Belfast-Derry line" also known as "Derry/Londonderry Line") if you feel this needs to be better acknowledged. I get this train regularly and I've never heard it being referred to as this. Fair enough the train on the front says Londonderry/Derry but inside the cabin, it is referred to simply as Londonderry. I thought it was the Belfast to Londonderry line? It arrives at Londonderry station and stops a number of times in County Londonderry.Homebirdni (talk) 12:23, 24 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That is because NIR consider Derry's name Londonderry. If we were to name it what the operator calls it the page would have to be renamed Londonderry Line not Belfast - Londonderry Line but the wiki way of doing this is just to refer to both terminus cities of the line. Do you have another example of a Railway Route Template in use in Northern Ireland? Im not too familiar with this. Thinking logically, NIR own the station and hence can call it what they want. Just the same as the Port is called Londonderry Port. The port serves the city aswell, just like the train station.
