Creating book in different languages

How can I create a book in different languages? If I want to add some articles in English and then some in Czech - it is not possible because the book creator in czech pages starts from the scratch (0 pages created).

Unfortunately cross language collections are not possible.--Volker.haas (talk) 13:05, 6 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You could possibly do this in user-space. Rich Farmbrough, 14:22, 15 May 2011 (UTC).[reply]

Incorrect vertical spacing on math formulas

In the first page of the Context-free language article, when rendered as a pdf, some of the equations overlap vertically [1]. I couldn't find anything on the help pages about how to change LaTeX code to work well with the pdf rendering. Is there a way to fix the vertical spacing here? Does this issue happen in the PediaPress rendering? -- Creidieki 18:36, 6 April 2011 (UTC) on the

This problem does not exist in the book available at pediapress. The difference is that the formulas are rendered "natively" in TeX for the books. But for the downloadable PDFs the formulas need to be rendered to images which are embedded in the PDF. I'll try to find out if I can resolve the vertical positioning issue.--Volker.haas (talk) 13:05, 6 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you

This message was actually posted on the Help desk, so I copied it here.  Chzz  ►  02:16, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I used the book service today. (I dont know if I should call it a service) but it is great. Collect some articles and add them to your book and just download it. Simply superb. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Abhishek.jain.1985 (talkcontribs) 02:07, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Book Creator---I apologize if this has already been addressed somewhere....(about Release dates in Infoboxes for Video Game Articles, etc.)

Hi. I am sorry if this has already been answered (or if I'm asking in the wrong place), but it seems like in certain video game articles, it won't show the "Release date(s)" in the Infobox of the PDF version. It shows the release dates fine in articles where there is no clickable "Show" button in the Infobox under the "Release dates"; however, in articles on video games of Wikipedia where you need to click "show" in order to show all of the release dates, it shows nothing in the "Release date(s)" field in the PDF version. I guess maybe the problem might not be inherently the Book Creator itself, but maybe I need to talk to WikiProject Video Games and make a request that all Infoboxes within the scope of that project omit the "show" button and just display all the release dates all the time without having to click. I honestly don't know if I needed to mention here, but I thought I'd just give a "heads up" so you guys are aware of the problem just in case by some small chance it's a flaw in the Book Creator PDF versions of articles. I apologize that this is so long. If this doesn't make sense, let me know and I'll try to clarify. This is very oddly specific, so I can't guarantee that if and when I clarify it will make sense then either. Thanks for your time. 67.182.237.57 (talk) 23:52, 12 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hello again. I am going to add one thing so this makes more sense: In the PDF version of Super Mario 64, for example, it doesn't show up, but it shows up fine in Super Mario Kart, since in the actual Wikipedia article counterpart you don't have to click the show button in SMK but you do have to in SM64. Maybe this helps make it a little more clear--I hope. Thx. 67.182.237.57 (talk) 23:57, 12 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about the above lengthy section--Ignore it! :)

Hi. It's me again. Referring directly to video game articles was too narrow of scope, so I'm going to restate this in a more generic sense so that it is clear. I have observed that when in Wikipedia, there are certain Infoboxes in articles that have a "show" button that you click on to show more information in the Infobox. Well, if you expand or show the info by clicking on it, then use Book Creator to turn the article into a .PDF, when afterward reading the PDF, the Infobox doesn't show the expanded information; only the original info remains. Is there some solution to this problem for the PDF's and Infoboxes? I understand this may be a tricky fix that is easier said than done. Thanks! :) 67.182.237.57 (talk) 21:27, 14 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Query - does this happen with collapsed navboxes? (Or are they suppressed entirely in books?) Rich Farmbrough, 14:18, 15 May 2011 (UTC).[reply]
Good question. From what I observe, the navboxes don't exist at all in pdf's. 67.182.237.57 (talk) 22:26, 15 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I might have misinterpreted the question, Rich. The navboxes do exist when 'creating' books in Book Creator, but the navboxes aren't present in the pdf's themselves. Hopefully I addressed your question properly. 67.182.237.57 (talk) 22:32, 15 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The show feature is not the problem, it's the specific templates that use the show button that are the problem. Some templates, such as {{Help! tracks}}, work (mostly) but {{Collapsible list}}, which is used for video game infobox release dates, does not. McLerristarr | Mclay1 11:35, 27 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, Mclay1. I'm wondering if there is any course of action to take to propose changes within Wikipedia at the "Village Pump: Proposals", or do I just need to reluctantly accept these problems as unchangeable? If I were to go to Village Pump Proposals, would you agree that I could propose that these templates could have the option of being "toggle-able" so that the "Show" button can be nullified in order to make it display correctly in a PDF book, or perhaps that would be too difficult/unusual to implement? Would you recommend a different approach for creating a better proposal that makes more sense if my first solution doesn't seem suitable? If this question does not fall under your areas of expertise, I understand; and also apologize for using up your time you could be using to answer more relevant and noticeable questions about bugs. Thanks for being able and willing to help. 67.182.237.57 (talk) 22:50, 28 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Or perhaps I need to go to the Discussion Page for Collapsible list? (Sorry, couldn't figure out how to properly use the wikilink. Maybe "Collapsible list" doesn't have a Discussion Page.) 67.182.237.57 (talk) 22:55, 28 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Exporting specific sections of an article

It would be nice to be able to export only specific sections of an article to PDF. Thanks. --jonsafari (talk) 04:54, 18 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Images of chemical compounds

I have found that in some articles, for example Aspartame, the images of the molecule in the info table don't show up on the Book PDF. It appears that since the link for the image file is [[Image:Aspartame.svg|Aspartame]], it is making two columns, divided where the bar "|" is. I don't know if that's the cause of the problem, but it is something I observed. --Proctris (talk) 14:57, 30 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I created this book but it will not convert to PDF for download - it gives me an error message with a long string of incomprehensible gibberish. Anyone have any idea what's wrong? Briangotts (Talk) (Contrib) 20:02, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I only have a guess. This problem you are describing happened to me several times. I think the server gets overloaded if there are too many articles in the book. I don't know if increasing RAM on the computer helps or getting a better processor (both very costly), but I only have 1 GB RAM and that seems to happen a lot on that computer. The processor is lower than an Intel Core 2 Duo, so I don't know if it would ever get resolved if Wikimedia gets a better server. I'm sure lots of people trying to convert PDF's from Wiki articles at the same time bogs down the server. Just a couple of ideas I have, not much in the way of solutions. Sorry. Hopefully someone with more experience will have a more helpful solution. 97.47.73.42 (talk) 22:52, 12 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Bug: Characters not rendered in en:nested word

Several of the characters in the en:nested word article are rendered as boxes in pdf. These characters include ↝, ⟩, and ⟨. This happens in both renderers. (I reported this a few months ago on the meta feedback page, but haven't gotten an acknowledgement.) -- Creidieki 16:16, 4 June 2011 (UTC)

Template Nuclide2 may cause overlaps in PDF

Please see Template talk:Nuclide2#Overlaps in PDF render. I am only guessing it is {{Nuclide2}} because all the articles I looked at that use {{Nuclide}} do not show this problem. -84user (talk) 17:30, 9 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Bug: Some PDF articles omit certain parts of the Infobox

Hello. Some articles don't show all of the info in the Infobox. I notice that in article Infoboxes in which there is a "Release date(s)" field, if there is more than one release date, it won't show any information at all. This bug should be related to the clickable "Show" button that is in blue, that makes the collapsed information appear. In the PDF, it must be confused by the "Show" button, and so it omits the information since it doesn't know what to do with it. My example article is Super Mario Bros. 3. In other article Infoboxes, if there is only one "Release date", the information is easily transferable to the PDF. So I don't know if the problem is inherently in the PDF Converter, or rather in the "Show" button itself. Thanks, and please request clarification if necessary. 97.47.73.42 (talk) 22:46, 12 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This has problem already has a section (two in fact) above. McLerristarr | Mclay1 11:36, 27 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Printworthy redirect

It would be useful if printworthy redirects could be integrated into the books. Currently, they don't actually have a use but are tagged for the possible future. I propose that if a redirect is added to a book and is categorised as printworthy (or not categorised as unprintworthy; we should probably get rid of one of the two categories), then the redirect is somehow included, rather than the redirect being followed and the target being included. Perhaps in the contents page, it could be listed, followed by "see target" or something. Also, if the PDFs had an index, like the print books, printworthy redirects could be listed in the index, rather than the targets being listed. McLerristarr | Mclay1 10:31, 27 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Licence

Is it possible to have "License" display as "Licence"? I really don't want American English in my books, especially if the rest of the book consists of articles written in British English. Also, the Licence page seems a bit excessive – an entire page for a tiny bit of writing. McLerristarr | Mclay1 10:42, 27 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Numbered lists

In numbered lists, if a number is set as a specific value (so the list doesn't start with 1), the altered number appears as a bullet instead. I'm not sure if this happens in every case but it happens in infoboxes which include a template such as {{Help! tracks}}. The aforementioned templates also have a border around them in print versions, apparently because of the template they use. I attempted to create a print version of {{Let It Be tracks}}, which solved the border problem but the numbering problem persists and for some reason the print version centres the numbered list, rather than having it left-aligned as it should.
