BU may stand for:

  • Backup (sometimes written as B/U)
  • Bus Interface Unit, also called BIU
  • Brabender Units (used in flour anaylsis)
  • Bethesda unit, a measure of inhibitor activity relating to a coagulation factor
  • Biological unit, the smallest number of protein molecules which form a biologically active unit
  • Braathens, whose IATA airline designator is BU
  • "Brilliant Uncirculated" or "Beautiful Uncirculated", in numismatic coin grading
  • Builder (US Navy), a Seabee occupational rating in the U.S. Navy
  • Bulgaria, whose WMO, FIPS Pub 10-4 and obsolete NATO diagram country codes are BU
  • Burma, ISO 3166-3 country code BU, replaced in 1989 by the ISO 3166-1 codes MM and MMR (for "Myanmar")
  • Business unit, a division within a company, as in strategic business unit
  • BU, equal to terrawatt hour (TWh), a unit of energy used in India to measure annual power generation. BU mean billion units, where one unit is a kilowatt hour (kWh). Different from BTU.
  • Broken up, referring to the scrapping of a decommissioned ship.
