Japanese Page

Kudos to whoever made the Japanese article. I just wanted to point out that there is a Japanese version of the hymnbook but the page numbers indicated in THIS (English) article, don't correspond to the pages in the Japanese edition. Someone with a Japanese version may want to research that to make the Japanese article accurate. Isaac Crumm 22:03, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In the Japanese article the hymn list is omitted (Japanese version of the HYMNS contains only 200 songs). Instead, a brief history of the LDS hymnals is added. --Hasec 19:57, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The last time I looked at it, it has the brief synopsis (similar to a table of contents) from the table of conents of hymns by category. Those hymn numbers are for the English edition and are not valid for the Japanese edition. That is the point I was trying to make. Has that synopsis been edited? (Current computer does not have the capability to read the page.) Isaac Crumm 01:16, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The Japanese article, since its first version, contains two tables of contents: one is of the English hymnal, the other of the Japanese hymnal. The Japanese table goes like this (all written in Japanese):
  • 1-31 Restoration
  • 32-51 Praise and Thanksgiving
  • 52-95 Prayer and Supplication
  • 96-113 Sacrament
  • 114-115 Easter
  • 116-128 Christmas
  • 129-186 Special Topics
  • 187-194 Children's Songs
  • 195-195 For Women
  • 196-200 For Men
    • lacks "Patriotic"

Other languages

It would be good if we could get a comprehensive list of the languages which the hymnal has been published.Isaac Crumm 05:01, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Track listing

Please explain why the entire track listing is notable or it will be deleted. Most hymnal articles do not provide an exhaustive track listing.--Jeffro77 (talk) 00:59, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Track list? This is a book (specificly a hymnal), not a recording. -- 208.81.184.4 (talk) 21:54, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Complete list of Hymns?

It would be fairly easy (and fairly referenceable) to include all of the hymns in the hymnal in the article (perhaps even in "show/hide" within the current breakout by type. Is this desirable?Naraht (talk) 14:57, 31 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ease and value/usefulness are two difference things: wp:laundry lists are generally frowned upon as being un-encyclopedic. -- 208.81.184.4 (talk) 21:27, 31 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The article used to have the complete list until a user removed it in July 2009. I propose adding it back in, because it gave an opportunity to link hymns with the pages of their composers. Alangh (talk) 17:09, 30 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. And I think they can be done with Show/Hide to keep the article from looking too long. Do we have an existing page which is similar?Naraht (talk) 17:52, 30 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I would be in favor of listing each hymn in order, as long as the "show/hide" button was included. In answer to Alangh's inquiry, yes. Many articles that have soundtracks that use the show/hide feature; otherwise the page would get way too long. I think you wanted an example page. My example isn't religious, but Super Mario Galaxy (a video game) uses the feature for each of the two discs that the soundtrack is listed from. (Look in the Music section of that article.) 67.182.237.57 (talk) 06:32, 21 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

1985 hymnal picture

I understand there used to be a picture, but it got removed by a bot (probably because there was no fair-use rationale or something). Would it be alright if I request a picture that qualifies for fair use? If that is OK, perhaps someone who knows how to could use the tag on this talk page that says something like, "An image is requested for this article. Please contribute if you have one that constitutes fair use." Thank you! 67.182.237.57 (talk) 06:23, 21 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
