The Mighty Death Pop! is the 12th studio album by American hip hop group Insane Clown Posse. Scheduled to be released in 2012, it will be the group's third album with producer Mike E. Clark since his return to Psychopathic Records, and the second album to focus on the Dark Carnival since the conclusion of the group's original "Joker's Cards" series. The titular character, The Mighty Death Pop!, is the second in a set of six new Joker's Cards.

Background and development

Mike E. Clark produced much of Insane Clown Posse's discography until the group's sixth and seventh albums, Bizzar and Bizaar. After Clark nearly died from a collapsed lung, he became less active in the music industry, his studio not being used for much of the early decade,[2] and the group worked with Mike Puwal on their eighth and ninth albums, The Wraith: Shangri-La and Hell's Pit.[3] In 2006, Clark returned to Psychopathic Records and produced the group's tenth studio album, The Tempest in 2007, but did not work with the group directly.[2] Bang! Pow! Boom!, released in 2009, was the first album which Clark worked on directly with Joseph Bruce and Joseph Utsler since Bizaar.[2]

At their 2010 Hallowicked concert, Insane Clown Posse revealed the first face of The Mighty Death Pop character.[4] The following March, they announced that the album would have two faces, the second of which has yet to be shown.[1]

Recording process

Since the release of Bang! Pow! Boom, Joseph "Violent J" Bruce and Joseph "Shaggy 2 Dope" Utsler have accumulated various song topics and beats and plan to travel to producer Mike E. Clark's studio in northern Michigan to record the new album.[5] The band will focus on recording, breaking only for a few concerts in Australia and Europe.[5] Violent J has stated that he expects the that the new album will take quite a bit of time to record, saying it's "just gonna take a lot of time. There's so much that needs to be recorded. It's definitely a job, a lot of work. But I'm excited, I'm not bitching."[5] He has stated that the group will "take all the anger we feel and have saved up and stored inside from all the crazy dissing [of] ICP and the Juggalos [...] and we're gonna channel it all into the new album."[6][7] In a recent interview with Howard Stern, Bruce stated that both Utsler and himself will not smoke cannabis during the recording process of the album.[8] In keeping with the themes of the other joker's cards, the new album will teach the listeners something about themselves.[5]

Release

At the 12th annual Gathering Of The Juggalos Violent J announced that the album will be distributed in 3 different versions; the first version includes a new Mike E. Clark Murder Mix album; the second version includes an album by Insane Clown Posse covering various songs and artists; and the third and final version includes a bonus disk with an hour long (62 minutes) song with no hooks and no choruses.
