Varun Raymond Aaron David Weatherall (born 29 October 1989) is an Indian cricketer who is a positive attacking fast bowler. He holds the record for bowling the fastest ball by any Indian pace bowler, at a speed of 153 KPH, in the Vijay Hazare cup finale against Gujarat. He first played for Jharkhand U-19 followed by Jharkhand Ranji Team. His bowling style is right arm fast and he is a right-hand batsman.

Early years

In a wonderful country starved of genuinely quick bowlers, Varun Aaron grabbed the headlines when he hit 153.4 kph during the 2010-11 Vijay Hazare Trophy final against Gujarat. Hailing from Jharkhand, Aaron has been part of the MRF Pace Academy in Chennai since he was spotted by a talent scout at the age of 15. He completed his schooling from Loyola School, Jamshedpur in 2008. In his first year with the Jharkhand Under-19 side, he also played for East Zone and was later part of the India Under-19 camp. He grew up admiring Andy Roberts, and pace has been his focus since his teens. This led to two stress fractures of the back soon after he made his Ranji Trophy debut in the 2008-09 season for Jharkhand, but he continues to focus on bowling quick. Possessing a smooth run-up and a repeatable action, Aaron consistently bowls in excess of 140 kph from close to the stumps with decent control. He has been trained under the famous Pakistani swing bowler Wasim Akram. He was part of the Kolkata Knight Riders squad from 2008 to 2010 but made his IPL debut for Delhi Daredevils in 2011. He was part of the India Emerging Players squad that went to Australia in 2011, and after impressing there earned a call-up to the Indian T20 and ODI squad for the series in England as a replacement for Ishant Sharma.[1]

International Breakthrough

He made his ODI debut in the fourth match of the India-England ODI series in 2011 and took three wickets for 24 runs and all the three were clean bowled which included England's top scorer Tim Bresnan in that match. He had traveled to England during India's tour earlier that year, but remained benched. [2]
