Sarathbabu Elumalai is an Young Indian Entrepreneur, social worker and politician. He is an alumnus of Indian Institute of Management (Ahmedabad) and Birla Institute of Technology and Science(Pilani).He is the winner of several awards and notable among them are the PEPSI-MTV Youth Icon 2008 and "Example to Youth Award 2008".His story is a true motivation for people aspiring to rise up in life through sheer hard work.
Early life
Sarathbabu was born in a slum area located at Madipakkam ,a suburb of Chennai, Tamil Nadu , India. His family of five young children were supported by his relentlessly hardworking mother Deeparani,an Anganwadi worker. She also did various other jobs like making idli,which Sarath used to sell before going to school everyday. Sarath often quotes his mother being his biggest inspiration. Sarath excelled in studies from early age and secured admission at prestigious Birla Institute of Technology and Science (Pilani) with the help of the loans from his relatives and friends.After completing his graduation,he worked for three years in an IT firm to repay his debts and then got admission to India's most revered management institution, IIM-Ahmedabad. Upon completion of his course,instead of taking up lucrative jobs in India or foreign countries like many of his peers,he decided to become an entrepreneur and provide opportunities to as many people as possible. He started his venture "Food King" with a meager capital and its now located in 6 locations around India with a sizable turn over. His first branch was opened by Mr. Narayana Murthy, founder of Infosys.
Social work and Politics
Sarath has been actively motivating young people across the country with positiveness of his story and involved in various social activities like adopting education of needy meritorious students .He launched a vision of "Hunger Free India" where 10-10-2010 was observed as a Hunger Free Day. Its objectives were 1. Provide food for at least 10,000 Needy people 2. A Human Chain to create awareness about the vision of Hunger Free India 3. An entrepreneurial workshop for 100 youngsters. 4. A Youth conference to discuss the ways to achieve Hunger Free India. He decided to take part in active politics with a mission to be a part of a cleaner system and contested as an independent candidate in South Chennai constituency during 2009 Lok Sabha Elections 2009 and won 15,000 votes despite being a newbie.He later joined a regional political party for better reach but quit the party later when his ideology didn't match with the party's .In 2011 Tamil Nadu assembly elections,he is contesting as an Independent candidate from the Velachery constituency (comprising Adyar, Thiruvanmiyur, Taramani, Velachery, Besant Nagar).His Election symbol is "SLATE".His goal is to win the election without bribing even one Rupee to the voters.A couple of his associates also contesting with the same symbol of "SLATE" in Anna Nagar and Mylapore Constituencies.He plans to launch a corruption free political party with the help of like minded citizens after the elections are over.He lost the elections and garnered 7472 votes.He has vowed to stay in politics and fight against injustices.
Again Sarath is contesting CHENNAI MAYOR 2011 ELECTION with DESK Symbol. The election date is on 17th Oct 2011.
