Mercedes-Benz T2

T 2 designates series of Mercedes Benz transporters. The T 2 is called also Duesseldorfer transporter, since he was built until 1996 in the work Duesseldorf.

First Generation (1967-1986)

In 1967 on the market came the T 2 as a successor of the series L 319/L 406. The vehicles filled the gap between Bremen Transporters and the heavier trucks, manufactured in Woerth. The T 2 was available as box car, plank bed car (also as double cab) and bus. The body was available starting from 1977 for box cars and bus in two different widths. In 1981 it had a facelift. The most remarkable differences were the new, radiator grille, which consisted now of black plastic. All variants of the T 2 were quite common, since they were used as delivery vans, light building site vehicle, fire-brigade, rescue car, package setting vehicle of the post office (with sliding door at the driver's side) and for all erdenklichen special applications. At the beginning of the 1970s, T 2 was additionally available under the name Hanomag Henschel. The production of box and plank bed cars of the first generation ended after 19 year construction period and approx. 450,000 copies in 1986.

Second generation (1986-1996)

The second generation of the T 2 came in 1986 and was built until 1996. It concerned a complete new development, the hood had become longer, the design altogether more sharp-edged.

Third generation ("Vario") (since 1996)

Since 1996 the T 2 comes from the "Ludwig Field" factory and is called Mercedes-Benz Vario. The optical differences between it and its predecessors are quite small: new headlights and radiator grille; moreover the interior was revised.
