Larisa Andreea Iordache (born June 19, 1996, in Bucharest, Romania) is a Romanian artistic gymnast. Her favourite events are the floor and the balance beam. She is the 2012 European Champion on floor. Moreover, she is a European gold medallist with the team and a silver medallist on balance beam.
Junior gymnastics career
Iordache started to train for gymnastics at CSS Dinamo Club in Bucharest at the age of four and a half. In 2008 she became a member of the national junior team were she trained with coaches Ramona Micu, Adela Popa, Cristian Moldovan and Lacramioara Moldovan.[1] She had a successful junior gymnast career medaling at various international competitions. For example, she won four medals at the 2010 European Championships (one gold, two silver, and one bronze) and six medals at the 2011 European Youth Olympic Festival (three gold and three silver).[2][3][4]
2009-2010
In 2009 she won the prestigious Top Gym Trophy. At the same competition she won gold on beam, bronze with the team, and placed seventh in the uneven bars final.[5] The series of successes continued at the 2010 Romanian International Championships where her scores on beam and on floor were the highest of all the gymnasts, including the senior ones.[6] Later that year she was a member of the junior team at the 2010 European Championships. Here she tied for gold on floor with Anastasia Grishina, won silver on beam and with the team, and bronze all around, and placed fourth on vault.[2]
2011
In 2011 she won several all around titles at international competitions such as the Gym-Festival of Trnava (59.500) and a dual meet against Great Britain (58.300), and she scored 58.800 to lead the Alliance Dijon Gym 21 club to first place at the French championships.[3] The highlight of the year was the win of six medals at the 2011 European Youth Olympic Festival among which three gold medals (all around, beam, and floor) and three silver medals (team, uneven bars, and vault).[3][4]
Senior career
2012
Iordache made her senior international debut at the American Cup in March 2012, where she placed 3rd in the all-around behind Jordyn Wieber and Alexandra Raisman. Later that month, she competed with some of her Romanian teammates at the Doha World Cup. After a fall from beam in the qualifications she only made the uneven bars final where she finished in 4th place[7]. In April she competed at some friendly meets in France and Germany. In France she performed a new floor routine that included one of the most difficult tumbling passes in the code, the "Silivas" pass (double twisting double back).[8] In May she contributed the Romanian victory in the team event at the European Championships in Brussels. Individually, she qualified for the floor, balance beam, and uneven bars finals. Iordache and Anastasia Grishina were the only gymnasts to qualify for three different event finals at that competition. After giving up her place in the uneven bars finals, she won gold on floor and silver on beam behind teammate Catalina Ponor.
