History

The town's founder is Ranald McKinnon. Caledonia became a settlement because of the Grand River, where a mill was established. Later on a mine came and Caledonia is still mined by Georgia-Pacific.

In 2006, activists from the Six Nations of the Grand River and other First Nations occupied a tract of land in Caledonia, slated for the development of a subdivision, over which they held a land claim.
