History

On August 19, 2011, the company website of Wargaming.net, developer and publisher of World of Tanks, announced a new game:

"World of Battleships is your next game of the series «World of» - free online MMO game based on the epic naval battles of the twentieth century. Wide choice of vessels to open large tactical possibilities - each of them will be unique in terms of firepower, speed, armor and strength."[1]

Gameplay

Battle Groups

Battle groups are basically like squadrons in World of Warplanes and platoons in World of Tanks but used in the term of a navy, allowing a group of players to band together and fight battles.

Location

Battles will take place on specific maps, which are set places with different weather conditions. Wargaming.net has said that maps will take place in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Arctic. Each map will have its own "personality" and flow of battle.

Technology

The technology based on World of Warships is that there will be light cruisers, heavy cruisers, battleships, aircraft carriers, destroyers, and battle cruisers. These ships can be either real ships or prototypes from a variety of Navy's such as the Japanese Imperial Navy, Kriegsmarine (German Navy), US Navy, The Royal Navy (British Navy), and the Soviet Navy. Submarines and torpedo boats will not be present in World of Warships.

Similar to World of Tanks, special premium ships will be available for purchase with in-game currency, Gold.
