Al Markh
Al Markh (Template:Lang-ar) is one of the oldest and smallest villages of Bahrain. It neighbors Budaiya highway and the village of Duraz to the north, Saar and Magaba highway to the east, the villages of Bani Jamra and Al Garya to the west, and the village of Saar to the south.
History
Al Markh is one of the oldest villages of Bahrain. It hosts the Dilmun era "Abu Alyawa" spring, this spring is unique because it is located under land and has several entrances that have been destroyed due to it being in someone's land. The last entrance was not destroyed. The people of the village waged several sit ins to protect it, but to no avail.
Reason for the name Al Markh
Some historians say the village was named after a bedouin called Al Markh who settled in the village with his family due to it being uninhabited and good for farming, while others say that it is the name of a tree that was burned to warm up people thousands of years ago.
Population
The population of Al Markh is about 1000, almost all are sadah, and belong to the Al Musawi family.
