Persona 4: The Animation (ペルソナ4, Perusona Fō, stylized in Japan as "P4 Persona4 the ANIMATION") is based on the Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 video game by Atlus. Produced by AIC A.S.T.A. and directed by Seiji Kishi, Persona 4: The Animation revolves around Yu Narukami, a second year high school student from a city who moves to Inaba to live for a year with his uncle and cousin. After acquiring a mysterious power called "Persona", he embarks on a journey with his new friends to uncover the truth behind a bizarre series of murders involving the distorted TV World, as well as a phenomenon called the "Midnight Channel".

The main opening themes for the series are "sky's the limit", sung by Shihoko Hirata, for the first half (episodes 1 to 12), and "key plus words" sung by Hirata featuring Yumi Kawamura for the second half (episodes 13 to 22). The final 3 broadcast episodes did not have an opening theme. The main ending themes for the series are "Beauty of Destiny", sung by Hirata featuring Lotus Juice (episodes 1 to 12), and "The Way of Memories (Kizuna no Chikara)" (The Way of Memories -キズナノチカラ-, subtitle literally "The Power of Bonds"), sung by Hirata for the second half (episodes 14 to 23). Episodes 22 and 24 did not utilize ending themes.

In contraction to these songs, several other songs have been used in the series for openings and endings. The first episode broadcast utilized "Pursuing My True Self", the opening theme from the original video game, as its opening, with "sky's the limit" as the ending; this was changed to the standard opening and ending themes in the director's cut in the home media editions. Episode 9 had the unique opening theme "True Story" sung by Rie Kugimiya as her character Rise Kujikawa. Episode 13 had a unique ending in the form of "Koisuru Meitantei" (恋する名探偵, lit. "The Love Detective") sung by Yui Horie as the show-within-a-show character Loveline (ラブリーン, Raburīn). Episode 15 had a unique opening theme, using the Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 opening theme "Burn My Dread", performed by Kawamura. Episode 18 had a unique ending, utilizing the new song "Honto no Kimochi" (ほんとのきもち, lit. "True Feelings"), performed by Hirata. Episode 25 utilized "Never More", the ending theme song from the video game, performed by Hirata, as the ending theme.
