Cleveland Brown is a fictional character on the animated television series Family Guy. He is one of Peter Griffin's neighbors and best friends as well as one of the few recurring African American characters on the show. His name is an obvious parody of the Cleveland Browns professional football team.

Cleveland was married to Loretta Brown. Their son, Cleveland Junior, has ADHD. Cleveland also has a brother named Broderick, a plastic surgeon who makes a cameo appearance in the episode "He's Too Sexy For His Fat."

He is a strict vegan and claustrophobic.

Cleveland and Peter met one night, presumably in the early/mid 70's, when Peter was attempting to hitchhike a ride back to Rhode Island. Assuming from their dialogue, Cleveland had recently been dating or married to a woman named Maxine and had an affair with her. This probably motivated him to hit the road. After an encounter with the Ku Klux Klan near the South Carolina border, Peter and Cleveland arrived in Rhode Island, where Cleveland stayed and, oddly enough, moved into a house across the street from the Griffins.

Cleveland currently owns a delicatessen called Cleveland's Deli. At one time, he had a career as a successful auctioneer. During an auction, however, he was struck on the head by a falling totem pole; his speech is now very slow and monotonous. Any line of his, no matter how exciting it is intended to be, is read completely deadpan; for example in the episode Running Mates "Wow there's quite a crowd outside. I haven't witnessed pandamonium like this since Ridiculous Day down at the deli, when prices were so low... they were ridiculous". He is extremely mild-mannered and somewhat weak-willed. He is most weak willed towards his overbearing, and now ex, wife.

Cleveland and Loretta divorced after she had an affair with Glenn Quagmire, citing Cleveland's lack of passion as the reason for her infidelity, in the episode The Cleveland-Loretta Quagmire. After a short burst of rage, Cleveland forgave Glenn and the two remained friends. What this means for Cleveland Junior has not yet been brought up in the series (his only appearance since then was for his father's memorial in The Perfect Castaway).

In Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story, the red carpet intro has Cleveland coming out of his limo saying that he has a new clothing line, C.C. Brown, in Quahog. C.C. Brown is the name of a Houston Texans' rookie strong safety, although there is no connection.

The voice of Cleveland is provided by Family Guy writer Mike Henry[1], and his speech is often stereotypically African-American: in the episode One If By Clam, Two If By Sea, he is seen in the 1980's dressed in a similar way to the band, Run-D.M.C. and he speaks the words "Oh That's Fly".
