Dutch notes

Hoe is het mogelik dat iemand in Nederland (Rouvoet) lid is van een kerk in Noord-Amerika (CRC of NA)? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.133.42.1 (talkcontribs)

Perhaps what was meant was the Christelijke Gereformeerde Kerken of the Netherlands. See article on "Christian Reformed Churches." —Preceding unsigned comment added by THowerzyl (talkcontribs)

Is this unsigned comment serious? I will remove unless someone clears this up. Lufiend 16:49, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed comments up. They're serious (though this piece was vanadalism)--Will2k 17:20, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Notables

I've removed a few of the denom people. I don't believe that church agency heads and Presidents of denominational colleges need to be in an encyclopedia entry as they are not notable outside the church. I did add Paul Henry in as he was a U.S. Congressman and CRC member at the time. I added Jerry Zandstra in as he's a fairly well known pro-life activist, though based on his wiki, I wouldn't object too strongly were he removed... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.72.215.225 (talk) 15:57, 12 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Weird Demographics

This article states: "CRC churches are predominantly located in areas of Dutch immigrant settlement in North America, including Brookfield, Wisconsin, Western Michigan, Chicago, the city of Lynden in Washington State, British Columbia, Ontario, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Alberta, Iowa, suburban southern California, and northern New Jersey." I can see calling out Western Michigan, Ontario, etc. and perhaps even major cities like Chicago, but Lynden WA and Brookfield WI? There are many more cities in both WI and WA with CRC congregations than just these two places and meanwhile longtime traditional CRC centers like northern IN where there are numerous cities with congregations (DeMotte, Lafayette, Hammond, Munster, etc.) aren't even mentioned. As usual, Wiki is a fount of incomplete knowledge. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.51.66.153 (talk) 21:47, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Northern Indiana is part of the Chicagoland as it should probably be called. Now idea why Lyndon and Brookfield are mentioned specifically. Northern Washington would probably work. Not sure about Wisconsin at all. Rmhermen (talk) 22:30, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Life issues

I added to the entry the Christian Reformed Church in North America stances on life issues, according to their official website. The CRC opposes abortion, euthanasia, despite the fact that it doesn't have a official stance on the subject, but admits the death penalty to a certain extent.Mistico (talk) 19:05, 12 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have altered the phrasing in regard to the church's stance on homosexuality, as I don't think the difference between homosexualism and a homosexual orientation is as clear as the present phrasing suggests. Both are considered tainted with sin (reflecting a "broken", "sinful world"), but explicit acts are the disobedience of "saying yes". That theme is also evident from the report on Pastoral Care: part of the homosexual's "healing" may involve a lessening of urges and even a possible movement towards developing heterosexual relationships. Thus, I think it incorrect to present the church's stance as being that homosexuality is sinful only in its actions. Of course, there is some equivocation in the language of the documents. I tried to give more of the church's actual words.Profspeak (talk) 02:06, 6 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
