Jnana Prabodhini Prashala, is a high school located in Sadashiv Peth, Pune, India. It was started by educationist, Dr. V.V.Pendse, in 1962.[2] It follows the CBSE curriculum.
The school is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education, Delhi. It has classes from standard five to ten. There are different divisions for boys and girls. Each division has 40 students.
Mathematics, Social Sciences and Science are taught in English. The school offers four languages - English, Sanskrit, Hindi and Marathi. The language for informal communication is mainly Marathi.
The school follows a scheme of continuous evaluation, which includes weekly tests, term end examinations, assignments and projects ( like Futurology Projects and Investigatory Projects ). Jnana Prabodhini made their first attempt to initiate e-learning on July 28, 2011.[3][4]
The current principal of the school is Dr. Milind Naik.
A hostel is available for students coming from outside of Pune. However this hostel is only for boys
Uniform
Uniform for boys : White Salawar, a Pink Jhabba and White Gandhian cap. For girls: White Salawar, Sky Blue Kurta,and a White Odhani. Students wear the school uniform once a week (on Saturdays) and on special occasions. On other days the students are allowed to wear casuals. However, Indian dresses are mandatory for girls studying in class 7 and above.[1]
Admissions
Admissions to the school are opened to students studying in Standard 5. Students of Standard 4 studying in any school (English/Marathi Medium) can apply. The admissions are done on the basis of an entrance test and interview which is conducted by the school itself. The entrance test is designed by the psychological department of the school.[5]
Other activities
Students participate in many activities as selling fire crackers, school magazines and tilgul. Also Ganapati processions are conducted annually.The students are made to dance "legeem" and "barchi nrutya". The procession is usually 1 to 2 km long.
Sports
The students attend dal (physical training or sports training) which is hosted by the "[Jnana Prabodhini Yuvak Vibhag and Yuvati Vibhag" Older students may join the sports period as volenteers. Apart from sports, activities such as 'barchinrutya' and selling firecrackers as an exercise for increasing marketing skills are also undertaken by the Yuvak Vibhag http://jnanaprabodhini.org. The yuvati vibhag also takes many activities . The yuvak vibhag's current head is Aakash Chaukse.
Yuvak vibhag
The Yuvak Vibhag is presided over by Aakash Choukse. It conducts various dals for boys.It also works for social awareness amongst people. it was started in 1962. The yuvak vibhag has been inspired by the teachings of Sami Vivekanand. Every 2 years, on vivekanand jayanti, the Yuvak Vibhag conducts a sports demonstration to honour him. Boys preform various sports during the demonstration. There are 15 kumar dals and 18 kishr dals in pune.
