I've removed the references to the supposed exlusive-rights claim. It's unsourced, and implausible, since artists can't sign over their rights in this way.--Ethicoaestheticist (talk) 22:24, 23 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Notability

Hi, The article has been tagged with as may not meet notability guideline

It is relative to a painter that has made a lot of exhibitions, had a lot of articles in newspaper, several books have been done about him, including one done by a french minister, he is included into several dictionnary about art, ... So I don't understand where is the notability issue. Kristoguy (talk) 13:45, 29 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Primary sources or sources affiliated to the subject

The article is taking in reference several sites like yatrides.org, yatrides.com, yatrides-21st-century.com so it is probably why this tag has been set.

But in fact most of the informations are available from third party books with ISBN code published by third party, I have added more references. The links to yatrides-21st-century.com are here to allow the user to access more accurate informations like exhibition catalogs that are quite old and not on line elsewhere.

So I think that this tag should be removed Kristoguy (talk) 13:45, 29 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Reliable sources

I have added sources that are official books, so I hope that it is enough to remove that tags. Let me know Kristoguy (talk) 13:46, 29 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Re: the presence of my work on Wikipedia

Object: I am George Yatrides American of 3rd generation: my paternal Grandfather was a Christian orthodox deacon exerting his pastorate with Rock Springs, Wyoming.

Preamble: My situation requires a long enough outline; more I apologize about my English which surely suffers to be not usually applied

Hello,

I had much worry in Europe throughout my existence, in particular in France where I was born in 1931. To be American in France is not easy and French being in Europe is not it more. Unfortunately I am classified Americano-French, since I live in France. It appears thus that there is not much places to move or think. The only administrations French and German governments not depending on the intellectual Establishment including art, defended my work (Re: yatrides.org: Official French government evaluation of my pictorial work and position of my fundamental personal researches at the ECA (French atomic energy commission).

I do not think that the country of origin of my parents depends itself on a completed ostracism, of an Establishment such that of France, taking into consideration what I lived during my studies, in my course of painter and the fields of my personal fundamental research with the ECA* (see note below).

I took pleasure of what is developed on my existence in Wikipedia. It is interesting. However, C.N.R.S. (French governmental scientific research Centre), the ECA (French atomic energy Commission) are not deployed enough there. In correlation, the dictionary in which my work is analyzed, comprises many other personalities and not all of the professional painters, and that is not underlined enough. Not cited the “Who’s Who in international in Art” in which my work is analysed on 16 pages. Identically, the radicalization of Bourmeyster preeminent semiotician concerning the use by Clarke and Kubrick of my interstellar Icons in 2001 a space odyssey and Lars von Trier for its film Melancholia.

As regards the paintings referred to of the chapter “Exclusive Rights” which posed problem: It is a question of the paintings “Christ, Leica and orange” 1963 (Leica as you know it, German best photographic instrument) and “The teenager and the child” (1963). These paintings are entitled to the word concerning Clarke and Kubrick spectacular kinematics. In these paintings of 1963 and others before dated, exhibited in Chicago during my contracts with SE Johnson international galleries, the monoliths are present. The same slabs monoliths appear in “2001 a space odyssey Kubrick” film (1968), cult objects, keys of the adventure of this cinematic triumph since they are its argument and driving force, the subject takes another dimension. Anyway I never asked for paternity rights and this subject is a small part only of my work, but important for great collectors.

Perhaps could you help me to create in Wikipedia, a more intrinsic history of my life. I have 81 years and little time to attend some justice.

Sincerely,

George Yatrides

You don't answer to my text above.

Note: The Graphics, sources of all sciences, dominate in my work of painter with independent new way light, extrapolated on an artistic plan, in direct relationship to my fundamental researches led during my personal work to the ECA (French atomic energy commission), during which I found new properties of essential source of light and of non common time. My position American-French towards the French Establishment obliged me to deposit patents about my physics discovers, on chemical materialization appearing far away from the subject, but being connected to it if I in provided the bond which is not a simple link; patents approved by the “Patent office, Washington D.C.” which understood their real value, patents all claims granted; this to preserve the paternity of my work led in laboratories depending directly on the “French government nuclear administration” (see Fiscal tax valuation: yatrides.org > Fiscal tax estimation of the work) .

In correlation with the commitment of the French Establishment, concerning my pictorial work, the most important sales of my oil-base paints, sold in sales rooms adjudications, were not recorded in the French official headings this since 1980 - Of which “Gazette of the Hotel Drouot”, Jacques Boussac director - “the gazette Drouot” being the official reference and for this reason sales don't registered in others listings. revealed in a canadian source : yatridesArts.com [8]

That allowed the blossoming of many forgeries, copies and false techniques descriptions on my work sold until sale-rooms, bought by modest non advised collectors and reflected on Internet; forgeries recorded with the OCBC (Central office of repression against the traffic of cultural goods). In 2011, AskART decided to show some oil-base paints and their important sales; all the remainder being watercolors copies and/or forgery watercolors paintings. This commitment of the French established order, permit other creators to use with impunity my work in particular Kubrick or notably Arthur C. Clarke for 2001 a space odyssey and Lars von Trier to carry out its Melancholia film with which the axis is clearly depict in my oil ”Essential Vibration, finale phase experience” 1983.

Details concerning my position

First it is necessary to precise that I am American born in France in 1931 in third generation (my great father was orthodox Christian orthodox deacon carrying its pastorate near Russian and Greek community, in Rocks Springs Wyomming) and that I am a physicist. My researches at the CEA (AEC: French atomic energy commission) were from my only initiative according to my own designs and objectives. The demonstration of the theory that I had developed culminated in a new property of time and its influence in many fields including that of light emanating from solid bodies in various stages of incandescence, their action on the hydro carbonaceous elements. It is appropriate to recall that the human race is hydro carbonaceous and the stars are in effervescence /incandescence thermonuclear just as our own star Sun. Me were provided materials by: AMERICAN STELL Ltd. for metal tubes elongated steel cold introduced in the hydro carbonaceous materials in combustion ; PROCTER & GAMBLE co. Inc. for biological analyses ; Pierre LEDEZ, Head of research at the SEITA for some other hydro carbonaceous items ; Paul PERROUD, Director of special applications of physics CEA-CENG put laboratories offices and staff at my disposal for operations of weights and measures.

Concerning Kubrick' film cited in my wiki biography page:

My pictorial work is an extrapolation issue from my physics researches. The film is an artistic creation as my pictorial work. On a correlative side, it's clear that the philosophic fundament of "2001 a space odyssey" is not a technical question in the Influence on film. The fundament of the film 2001 concerns the destiny of mankind. The cult element of the film is the Slab monolith, the argument and driving force in the cinematic triumph of Stanley Kubrick ; the slab contains all genetic machinery, all knowledge, all prophecy. the slab inculcates and initiates the technical possibilities, on a 4,000,000 years period from humanoids to modern, to reach this preeminent ultimate goal which is the finality of mankind. The Slabs appear in my work since 1954, intervening as links in communication with mankind.

It is clear in the movie, doubtless possible for the film visual plan, plan after plan, all very slow according to the will of Kubrick, have a fear thus to avoid them, that the intervention of the monolith directs its movie. Without having to operate any the philosophic or other deduction, the very slow progress of the events according to this will of the designer, quite specially when the monolith appears, it is well the one to underline that the monolith intervenes and introduces the human race since its origins, at the beginning of the movie, according to precise acts and this in the crucial stages which bring the man to the term of his fate. A lot, to seem interesting, gets involved to tell Kubrick while they know only a summary of the movie, summarized itself stemming from a trailer. Indeed, the characteristic slowness of the progress of the movie, the slowness stressed even more on certain images in particular on those of the monolith, the mesmerizing slowness for some, demoralized it the others tired by this slowness; the dimension of the subject of this exceptional movie and its scale, was not able to find of sufficient place in certain spirits.

Please note that Wikipedia talk pages are intended for discussion leading to the improvement of articles. We cannot really use anything you've said above to improve the article. We need material based on reliable printed sources which are not affiliated with the subject. Extremely long posts such as you have written are frequently ignored, especially when the English is hard to understand. If you wish to engage with other editors in short comments with a conversational tone, you are likely to get a better response. What you've written above appears to be a statement and I don't really see any questions in it to which the reader would be expected to reply, except perhaps "Perhaps could you help me to create in Wikipedia, a more intrinsic history of my life". That's not really how Wikipedia works. We cannot engage in original research, we can only work from the independent sources which already exist. While we can link to your website, we cannot really use material which is only available on your website, as reliable sources need to be independent of the subject. Hope this helps. Yatrides, 12 February 2013

It is not the apology for George Yatrides it is only the very summary statement of historical facts which relates to its pictorial work extrapolated from its personal fundamental research led to the AEC (Atomic energy commission, of Grenoble), notably as from the fifth period of its pictorial work.

It is difficult to think that another creator can present an intrinsic analysis of his work more authentic than that operated by the French Tax authorities , on the core and the form, than Yatrides had to face; In particular when it is recognized now that French establishment had overlooked it, because he was American. By glossing its work, this established order had allowed a number of other creators to use unconstrained certain characteristics of its works. Also overlooked the sales price during years 80/90 carried out between private Collections, several sales reaching 3,080,000 CH Francs (3,325,000 US Dollars, recorded in Who' S Who in international art 1987/1988) whereas Yatrides had yielded them at a moderate price. If these paintings represent the movable preeminent private Collections”, it should be considered that several of its less important works represent the inheritance of modest Collectors having acquired them with difficulty.

On your councils, I withdrew the chapter His work source of inspiration a little long though very synopsis; although that was recognized, until in dictionaries, conferences, films TV, Videos academics, seminars; this in various countries.

Yatrides 07 march, 2013

Please remember that the signature ‘’Yatrides’’ represents the office of the Yatrides and its century foundative organization

In the beginning of Wikipedia page we answered your remark concerning George Yatrides' biography effectively realized in his lifetime, notably by the Historian of the 5th French Republic, Arthur Conte Minister for information and TV channels Chairman under the mandate of George Pompidou President of the French State, recommended by Charles of Gaulle preceding President.

--Yatrides (talk) 17:24, 7 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

And we have answered you. Let me make this clear, you are not going to write your own autobiography here. Your submissions have the following problems:
  • They do not follow our formatting requirements. Read our Manual of Style.
  • The sources are "inadequate", they for the most part do not meet our reliable sourcing requirements. (Read the link). In particular:
    • French Wikipedia may not be used as a reference.
    • Material hosted on "your websites" is not consider reliable, even if it is purported to be by the French government. Please provide links to the "original publications" of this material.
    • Normally, government documents are considered to be primary sources. We don't use them. We "require" reports in reliable independent third-party sources, that is secondary sources. We cannot interpret primary sources, which is what you are doing, and doing it in an apparently self-serving manner.
If you would provide proper reliable independent third-party secondary sources, I'm sure there are Wikipedia editors who would be glad to expand the article. But please stop trying to write it yourself. This is not going to happen. You have a conflict of interest and you are not editing in a neutral, objective manner as required by our policies. Either you work the way we suggest, or anything you do to the article will be undone. You also risk being blocked from editing or having the article protected so that no-one may edit it. Wikipedia is not here to grant you justice. It is here to summarize what currently exists in third-party reliable sources, which is what all encyclopedias do. If you want "justice", you will have to gain it through the legal system. You have been answered. You have been answered multiple times. You are simply ignoring the answers. The answers are simply not going to change. Thank you. Yworo (talk) 17:52, 7 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yatrides, 12 march 2013

I answer your remark personally. Justice was granted to George Yatrides, our member of honour, during the Eighties, with the support of the American Embassy, concerning its authentic biography including civil and professional life, with documents coming from external reliable secondary sources, such as that is précised in the websites. My Office tried several times to explain that and thought that the paragraph – Preamble – which they added at the beginning of page of Wikipedia/George Yatrides was justified. This decision appears inopportune. The rules of Wikipedia are not always easy to decipher and we thank you for your indulgence while regretting to have misused your patience involuntarily.

What follows is not to introduce it into Wikipedia, but to only underline facts of which evidence cannot be disputed.

George Yatrides won the lawsuits which the French Government instituted against him in 1983 and 1985 again applied confirmation during 1997-2007 period. These procedures were initiated by the dominating Establishment of this time which, notably by means of the French Tax authority department, tried to exclude the work of Yatrides which created a livable abstract world that the others could not do, disturbing the thriving market of the so-called abstract art.

Thus, www.yatrides.org[9] is the textual reproduction of the conclusions of these lawsuits correlative to George Yatrides integrity, conclusions admitted in an unfavourable situation by an opposition without concessions: "Georges Yatrides" work is in the tradition of the greatest masters. In terms of quality, his position is at the top in those of the message proclaimed, in the avant-garde painting of our era". Jean-Claude Cavaille, principal inspector, French tax authority (Vérifications Approfondies de la Situation d'Ensemble V.A.S.F.E. 1977/1981-1981/1985, Direction Générale – 38-40 avenue Rhin et Danube, 38047 Grenoble Cedex, France).

After these conclusions, Arthur Conte historian, who was previously minister of this government, realized the biography of George Yatrides, such as it is reproduced in www.yatrides.com . So it is not an autobiography but an authorized intrinsic biography, which of course, includes secondary reliable sources, including those registered by the lawsuits.

www.yatrides.com[10] (Yatrides master of time) carries the same title as that of the book of Arthur Conte: ‘’Yatrides master of time’’. It concerns its biography. Another part of yatrides.com is the analysis of George Yatrides work by Alexandre Sacha Bourmeyster semiologist. The remainder in footnotes, concern manifestations and events about Yatrides creations, universities thesis, school of press attachés, exhibitions, movies, TV films, videos. (TV news which are not cited but which are available). All the texts of these 2 sites reproduce notably secondary source external documents of which the sites are exclusively made up as that is confirmed in each one of them; For example, James Crowley, AEC (French atomic energy commission), Alexandre Sacha Bourmeyster etc.

So can we put back the text and the images which accompanied it, such as they were before you withdraw them because of the paragraph (preamble) which was added at the beginning of page that was inopportune?

Sincerely,

Note 1: The Bureau of our organization consists of senior officials of those which recognized the integrity of George Yatrides at the time of the lawsuit that the Government proceeded against him, lawsuit which he gained after 5 years procedure (1981-1985). The Bureau manages the 2 sites concerned that reproduce notably secondary source external documents of which the sites are exclusively made up, as said above.

Note 2: George Yatrides Great father was orthodox Christian Deacon in Rock Springs Wyoming Ill. He was born in France of American parents. Nationalities American and French do not get lost. George Yatrides is in situation of dual nationality although being American of third generation.

You just need to write neutrally and source to the actual sources, not yatrides.org or authentique-yatrides.fr. As I am sure you are aware, people can put anything they like on a website they control, true or false. I am not saying that this has been done, I am simply saying we do not and can not consider these sites reliable sources. All footnotes and citation will need to be to the actual sources. For lawsuits, you must source to newspaper articles about the suits. You can't site "exhibitions", you must cite newspaper or other news reports about the exhibitions. If Alexandre Sacha Bourmeyster has published an analysis, you must cite the journal that it is published in. If the only place it is published is your websites, then it is not considered reliable, but rather promotional. If there are newspaper articles, journal articles, TV interviews, TV shows, you can report what they say and make a citation to those sources directly. We can't source to any primary source such as court transcripts, we have to rely on third-party independent sources which describe what occurred. Material published on the websites is not independent. The text I have seen is written as if it is trying to prove something. Encyclopedia text needs to be written as a neutral report of what has happened. Nobody has only positive things written and said about them. The bad needs to be reported along with the good. I hope this helps. Yworo (talk) 03:54, 14 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
On and if press attachés mean what we call in English "press releases", these cannot be used, they are not considered to be reliable. There may be some exceptions, for example if an award-bestowing organization issues a release about who won the award and there is no other source, then maybe that might be used. But most award are also reported on in the news in one form or another. That's how we know the award is significant, so news sources are still preferable to press releases. Dear Sir,

Concerning the last amendment of 12 March made by the foundation which bears the name of George Yatrides, George Yatrides asked the foundation to let him do the admendment alone in April. But at this date of April 4, he forgot to sign the text he modified according to the advice and councils of the contsributor Iworo.

I thus put this text signed in the paragraph of the Talk-modifications, composed with neutral Press articles, Tv broadcasts and some events.

I hope that it suits in the standards of Wikipedia. Thank you for your attention concerning his work.

George Yatrides (Georges Yatridès) is an American artist born and based living in France. He stemmed from a Grandfather, deacon carrying out his Christian pastorate in Rock Springs Wyoming. His work is held in various collections throughout the world, including a number of North American private collections; it has been featured in retrospectives and Art School events. Eight periods characterise his paintings: "Fauvist" (1945-1948); "Abstract" (1948-1951); "Pre-graphic" (1952-1955/1956-1962); "Fundamental Graphics" 1 and 2 (1963-71/1973-78); "His own school - Apodictic" 1972-1983; "Apodictic Synthesis Period" 1949-2009": "First Synthesis" (1945-1988); "Latter Synthesis" 1945-2011). Yatrides period of highly prolific output lasted for over 65 years. Initially influenced by Gauguin and the Fauvists, the first exhibition of Yatrides work was held in Vichy, France, in 1954 when he was 23 years old with paintings dating from 1945 to 1949[1].

At an exhibition in Paris in 1956 of his first Pre-graphic paintings at Madame Chastenet de Gerry’s Gallery of Vowels [2] [3] [4] [5], His talent was noticed by an expert from the International Galleries, 424 South Michigan Avenue, Chicago [6]. This then led the artist, at the age of 26, to enter into an exclusive contract with International Galleries’ director, Samuel E. Johnson, who, through recognising the talent of some artists and organising exhibitions of their work, advised and encouraged purchases by prestigious private collections. Arthur Conte, who was French Minister of Culture and Communication, was later Director General of state-run French TV and then historian of the Fifth French Republic during the presidencies of Charles de Gaulle and Georges Pompidou, wrote the biography "Yatrides, Master of Time". [7] [8] [9] [10]

Biography (non exhaustive)

For 15 years, from 1955 to 1971, Samuel E. Johnson, director of the International Galleries held one man exhibitions for Yatrides in various big cities in the United States[11][12][13][14].Shortly after attention was drawn to Yatrides’ work all his paintings had been acquired by private collectors[15] [16] in Canada, Great Britain, Greece, Latin America, Switzerland and the United States[17][18]. A permanent exhibition was held by Samuel E. Johnson, tacitly extending the Gallery’s contracts until they were terminated by George Yatrides himself in 1971.

Free of external constraint, a master of new graphics, light and chromatics, George Yatrides undertook the extrapolation of his fundamental research at the French Atomic Energy Commission (CEA)[19] that enabled him to apply, on a flat surface such as a painting, a new artistic approach to light and time disassociated from space, without referent in the known world thus characterising an abstract world that is nevertheless inhabited by humans. Following this, he concentrated on the large-scale compositions which characterized his art in the seventies. First saw his own school 1972-1983, with his "Apodictic period, where scattered elements melted into his earlier work" said Alexandre (Sacha) Bourmeyster.[20]

In 1974, following an exhibition held by Jean Minet, the director of the Galerie de la Place Beauvau in Paris[21][22][23], juxtaposing the offices of the Ministry of the Interior, solo retrospective exhibitions were held throughout the world. Three Crypts in the Basilica of the Sacré-Cœur in Montmartre, Paris were consecrated to George Yatrides' paintings in 1981, an exhibition with a biblical inspiration [24][25][26].When his work was shown at the theater Moncade Galerie in Geneva

[27],the Attaché of the Israeli Cultural Centre Hekhal Haness in Switzerland wanted to commission one of his works for the Israeli State to be hung in the Knesset [28]. Yatrides situation and state of health forced him, regretfully, to decline this offer during a trip to Israel by invitation under the auspices of the Prime Minister, Shimon Peres. The Denis Huismans School of Journalism in Lyon, France, approved a study thesis of 402 pages by Corinne Lehodey: "Pictorial Creation" (La création picturale 1983) "Yatrides: the influence he exercised during his career, his testing by society, public relations consultants and art dealers". On 12 December 1983, when Yatrides work achieved a French sales record in Paris (at the Hotel Méridien under the hammer of the auctioneer Pierre Cornette de Saint-Cyr)[29][30][31], he donated the proceeds to Poland[32],travelling to Warsaw at the invitation of Lech Walesa[33] French Antenne 2 TV News 12:45 Pm, 13 december 1983, vente aux enchères au bénéfice de la Pologne, Commissaire priseur Pierre Cornette de Saint-Cyr : Adjudication 800.000 French francs (120.000 Euros)''[34] and the Polish authorities, where he took part in allocating the benefit. The subsequent dispatch of more than 500 tons of medical supplies, clothes, toys and fruits for children suffering from muscular dystrophy reference was organised by the Lyon’s club[11], the Rotary Club [12]and Jacques Dechavanne and, through the link with art, it was accepted into communist Poland, even though the merchandise came originally from France and the United States. [35] In late December 1983 the French composer and conductor, Jacques Charpentier, wrote his "Prelude for the Elsewhere" (Prélude pour l’ailleurs) in Mexico for a string orchestra which he dedicated to a canvas by George Yatrides "The New Scrolls" (Les nouveaux rouleaux) (60x92cm, 1977) [36][37][38] In 1985 a world record was acquired with the sale of a drawing Movement of a Memory (Mouvement d’une mémoire) (43 x 63cm, 1981), the selling price being higher than that for any drawing by Rembrandt, Willem de Kooning, Magritte or Picasso [39][40][41] On 17 January 1996 senior officials founded an organization in France in the name of George Yatrides, his work being recognized of public interest[42]..

Art critics and members of the scientific community perceived marked similarities between Kubrick’s monolith in his artistic cinematographic work and the slabs in the pictorial art of Georges Yatrides. Alexandre (Sacha) Bourmeyster[13], Historians [43] [14], Physicist [15][16], a French-born Russian semiologist, analysed the slabs depicted in some fifteen of Yatrides’ paintings from 1951 to 1965 and said"their power to transcend life in a supernatural manner symbolizes a mystic vector of absolute knowledge in a way that recalls Kubrick’s 2001, a Space Odyssey. He further emphasises the impact of George Yatrides’ work on Arthur C. Clarke and Stanley Kubrick and confirms that Yatrides monolithic slabs are the same as those that Kubrick and Clarke used in their 1968 movie. The French architectural website CYBERARCHItecte [44] also notes this fact. Christophe Odin, a modelling engineer in mathematical concepts and designer of the Kelkoo software[17][18], also noticed the striking similarity between the Clark/Kubrick slab of 1968 and the much earlier (1951) painting by Yatrides and other of his works that included slabs (whether thin or thick) up until 1963. Yatrides monolithic slabs are in a variety of different colours - black, dark gray, blue, white. In the film, the black monolith flying in space becomes blue and elsewhere is a bright, dazzling white with intersidereal gleams. Arthur Conte, French Minister of Culture and Communication, later Director General of state-run French TV, and then historian of the Fifth French Republic during the presidencies of Charles de Gaulle and Georges Pompidou, mentions in his book "Yatrides Master of Time" a representative work "The Teenager and Child" (L'Adolescent et l'Enfant) that was painted in 1963 and is one of fifteen paintings depicting slabs similar to that used by Kubrick [45]. Since 1956 Yatrides paintings have been exhibited in public galleries in big cities in various States in the USA, through the good offices of Samuel E. Johnson of International Galleries, Chicago. [46] [47]. Likewise, this similarity with the Kubrick slabs is also mentioned in various analyses at several outstanding events including the Canada-France International Biennials in their editions of 1987, 1989 and 1991, 1993 at which Yatrides was Principle Guest of Honour, "Main master Guest". [48]. James L. Crowley, Physicist and specialist in robotics, Mellon University Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, analysed the characteristics of the Yatrides Slabs and their clear similarity to those of Clarke and Kubrick. The Cinema Diaries points outthat Arthur C. Clarke and/or Stanley Kubrick visited art galleries to find inspiration and produce the film, said by specialists, most acclaimed movie [49]ever achieved about the conquest of the space

It would not be in the public interest for officialdom to unrelentingly try to trace an illusory income, since in doing so it would run the risk of compromising the creative activity and perhaps even the life of an artist where everything suggests he will be among those whoactually contributed greatly to la culture française[77].

On the new page regarding the work of Georges Yatrides, it consists solely of non-exhaustive summarized events, major events which marked his career. These facts are corroborated by newspaper articles, including major newspapers and TV reports I recall that Yatridès is 83 years old. Only articles and TV have guided my researches. I am a computer and I contacted the artist to verify its existence in the first and second professional events that marked his life. I hope I have been able to meet the standards of Wikipedia

Gilbert Arnaud

Note: Being an IT specialist and interesting me in the images I was so able to come to those of the paintings of Yatrides there and to notice so, on Yatrides-Talk, the errors of formulation that led me to intervene.

Here it after the last text I propose to present Georges Yatrides as requested by User: Theroadislong

_________

George Yatrides (Georges Yatridès) American artist born in 1931 living in France. He stemmed from a Grandfather Deacon carrying out his Christian pastorate in Rock Springs Wyoming. In his early twenties his work became widely recognised in North America. Today his paintings are held in various collections throughout the world and have featured in retrospectives and Art School events. Eight periods characterise his paintings: "Fauvist" (1945-1948); "Abstract" (1948-1951); "Pre-graphic" (1952-1955/1956-1962); "Fundamental Graphics" 1 and 2 (1963-71/1973-78); "His own school - Apodictic" 1972-1983; "Apodictic Synthesis Period" 1949-2009": "First Synthesis" (1945-1988); "Latter Synthesis" 1945-2011). Yatrides highly prolific output has continued over a period of 65 years. Yatrides early work was influenced by Gauguin and the Fauvists. His first exhibition held in Vichy, France, in 1954 when he was 23 years old, showed paintings dated from 1945 to 1949[86]. A subsequent exhibition held in Paris at Madame Chastenet de Gerry’s Gallery of Vowels[87] [88] [89] [5] in 1956 featured his first Pre-graphic paintings. It was at this exhibition that his approach was appreciated by an expert from the International Galleries, 424 South Michigan Avenue, Chicago[90]. At the age of 26, the artist entered into an exclusive contract with International Galleries’ director, Samuel E. Johnson influential art dealer of his time. By recognising the appeal of remarkable artists and organising exhibitions of their work, Johnson advised and encouraged purchases by prestigious private collections. Arthur Conte was also impressed by the work of Georges Yatrides. A French author and historian, Conte was President of the Assembly of the Western European Union and subsequently became CEO of state-run French radio and television (ORTF). He was official historian of the French Fifth Republic during the presidencies of Charles de Gaulle and Georges Pompidou. His work developing the biography of the artist "Yatrides, Master of Time"[91] [92] [93] [94]was published in 1992.

Biography (non exhaustive)

For 15 years from 1955 to 1971, Samuel E. Johnson, director of International Galleries held one man exhibitions for Yatrides in various big cities in the United States[95][96][97][98]. Shortly after attention was drawn to Yatrides’ work all his paintings had been acquired by private collectors[99] [100] in Canada, Great Britain, Greece, Latin America, Switzerland and the United States[101][102]. Johnson maintained a permanent exhibition of Yatrides work, tacitly extending the Gallery’s contracts until they were terminated by George Yatrides himself in 1971.

Free of external constraint, mastering new graphics and chromatics, George Yatrides undertook the extrapolation of his fundamental research at the CEA (French Atomic Energy Commission)[103] that enabled him to apply, a new artistic approach to light and non-common time disassociated from space. Following this, George Yatrides undertook the large-scale compositions which characterized his art in the seventies. His own school emerged in 1972-1983 with his "Apodictic period”, where scattered elements melted into his earlier work" said Alexandre (Sacha) Bourmeyster[104]

. An exhibition was held in Paris by Jean Minet, the director of the Galerie de la Place Beauvau[105][106][107], juxtaposing the offices of the Ministry of the Interior. In 1974, solo retrospective exhibitions were held throughout the world (Mexique, Bresil, Pologne, Grece, France, Angleterre, Suisse) [108][101][109].. In 1981, three Crypts in the Basilica of the Sacré-Cœur in Montmartre, Paris were consecrated to George Yatrides' paintings, an exhibition with a biblical inspiration[110][111][112]. When his work was shown at the Galerie du Parc in Geneva[113], the Israeli Cultural Attaché in Switzerland wanted to commission one of his works for the Israeli State: it was to be hung in the Knesset[114]. Yatrides situation and state of health forced him, regretfully, to decline this offer during a trip to Israel by invitation under the auspices of the Prime Minister, Shimon Peres.

In 1983 one of Yatrides paintings, ‘’The Other Shore’’ 1978 (65x92cm) formerly owned by British socialite Gwen Vidler-Dulles, related to the John Foster Dulles family, was sold at Christie’s in London for the record sum of 500,000 Francs (£45,360 sterling) in March[115][116]

The Denis Huismans School of Journalism in Lyon, France, approved a 402-page study thesis by Corinne Lehodey: Pictorial Creation (La création picturale) Yatrides: the influence he exercised during his career, his testing by society, public relations consultants and art dealers. On 12 December 1983 “The New Scrolls” achieved a French sales record at the Hotel Méridien in Paris, under the hammer of the auctioneer Pierre Cornette de Saint-Cyr[117][118][119] : Adjudication 800.000 French francs (120.000 Euros)[120]Yatrides donated the proceeds to Poland[121]. He went to Warsaw at the invitation of Lech Walesa[122] and the Polish authorities and assisted in allocating the funds. The subsequent dispatch of more than 600 tons of medical supplies, toys and fruit for children suffering from muscular dystrophy, was organised by the Lyon’s club[47], the Rotary Club[48] and Jacques Dechavanne collector. Since the donation was connected with art it was accepted by communist Poland, even though the merchandise came originally from the United States[123].

In Mexico in 1983 the French composer and conductor, Jacques Charpentier, wrote his "Prelude for the Elsewhere" (Prélude pour l’ailleurs) for strings. This prelude was dedicated to a canvas by George Yatrides "The New Scrolls" (Les nouveaux rouleaux) 1977 (60x92cm) [124][125][126].

In 1985 a world record for the sale of a drawing was attained by Movement of a Memory (Mouvement d’une mémoire) 1981 (43 x 63cm); the selling price being higher than that for any drawing by Rembrandt, Willem de Kooning, Magritte or Picasso[127][128]. On 17 January 1996 an organization was founded in France in the name of George Yatrides, his work being officially recognized as being of public interest[129].

Art critics and members of the scientific community saw marked similarities between Kubrick’s monolith in his artistic cinematographic work and the slabs in the pictorial art of Georges Yatrides. Alexandre (Sacha) Bourmeyster[49] , Historians [89], Physicist [50][51], French-born Russian semiologist, analysed the slabs depicted in some fifteen of Yatrides’ paintings from 1951 to 1965. He commented that "their power to transcend life in a supernatural manner symbolizes a mystic vector of absolute knowledge in a way that recalls Kubrick’s 2001, a Space Odyssey". He emphasised the impact of George Yatrides’ work on Arthur C. Clarke and Stanley Kubrick stating that Yatrides monolithic slabs are the same as those used by Kubrick and Clarke in their 1968 movie. The French architectural website CYBER ARCHItecte[130] also notes this fact. Christophe Odin, modelling engineer in mathematical concepts and designer of the Kelkoo software[52], also noticed the striking similarity between the Clark/Kubrick slab of 1968 and Yatrides 1951 painting and other of his works that included slabs (whether thin or thick) up until 1963. Yatrides monolithic slabs are portrayed in several different colours - black, dark gray, blue, white. In the film, the black monolith flying in space turns blue and elsewhere is a bright, dazzling white with intersidereal gleams. Arthur Conte, in its biographical work "Yatrides, Master of Time" published in 1992, he discusses a representative work "The Teenager and Child" (L'Adolescent et l'Enfant) painted in 1963. It is one of fifteen paintings depicting slabs similar to that represented by Kubrick[89]

Since 1956 paintings by Yatrides have been exhibited in public galleries in major cities in various States in the USA, through the good offices of Samuel E. Johnson of International Galleries, Chicago[131][132]. The similarity with the Kubrick slabs is also mentioned in various analyses at several outstanding events including the Canada-France International Biennials in their editions of 1987, 1989 and 1991, 1993. Yatrides was Principle Guest of Honour at these Biennials[133]. James L. Crowley, Physicist and specialist in robotics, Mellon University Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, analysed the characteristics of the Yatrides Slabs and their clear similarity to those of Clarke and Kubrick. The special edition of Cinema Diaries entitled “2001, the future according to Kubrick” points out that Arthur C. Clarke and/or Stanley Kubrick visited art galleries to find inspiration and produce their highly acclaimed movie[134] about the conquest of space.

  • 1981: French International Bureau of Fiscal Investigation, Prefectural records in Grenoble 1981 and Paris 1985: Yatrides draws his inspiration from a vast culture that embraces the adventure not only from the earliest archaeology but also the most advanced of sciences. Georges Yatrides follows in the footsteps of the greatest masters. For the quality of his work and the message he proclaims, he is on a high peak, way ahead of the pictorial creation of our time. It would not be in the public interest for officialdom to unrelentingly try to trace an illusory income, since in doing so it would run the risk of compromising the creative activity and perhaps even the life of an artist where everything suggests he will be among those whoactually contributed greatly to la culture française[160].
