The 1957 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final was the seventieth All-Ireland Final and the deciding match of the 1957 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, an inter-county Gaelic football tournament for the top teams in Ireland.
Match summary
Louth, the smallest county in Ireland, defeated Cork, the biggest, thanks to a late Seán Cunningham goal.[1] Dermot O'Brien captained the victorious Louth team that day.[2] The Wee County won by a scoreline of 1-9 to 1-7 in the game at Croke Park on Sunday 22 September 1957.[3]
Aftermath
When Louth team captain Dermot O'Brien died on Tuesday 22 May 2007, members of the 1957 All-Ireland winning team formed a guard of honour at his funeral.[2][3] His death came as the 50th anniversary of this famous day in Louth's history was approaching.[3][4]
