User:Yellowjournalism (born November 9, 1986 in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada) is a casual Wikipedia contributor mainly interested in making minor additions or corrections to articles about hockey, politics and his native P.E.I. It is not unusual for him to see a humorous reference to a famous person or event on one of his favourite television shows and add said reference to the Wikipedia article for said person or event. These shows include, but are not limited to: Seinfeld, That '70s Show, The Office (U.S. version), Family Guy and Trailer Park Boys.
His username is inspired by his profession and the fact that Wikipedia, by its accessible nature, is prone to inaccurate and biased editing.
Early life and education
The son of a school secretary and a former paramedic, Yellowjournalism was raised in Tryon and Lady Fane, P.E.I., both just outside Crapaud, and attended Englewood School in Crapaud. Englewood is a small rural school serving students from Grades 1-9 which also employs his mother as its secretary. After graduating from Bluefield High School in 2004, Yellowjournalism attended the University of Prince Edward Island in Charlottetown, P.E.I., and earned his bachelor of arts degree in political studies in 2008.
Having been interested in sports writing since his early teens, Yellowjournalism decided to do what he could to gain experience in the field while at UPEI. He did opt to major in political studies instead of journalism, feeling that a larger body of knowledge would serve him well in the future, but nevertheless set to work elbowing his way into the field of sports writing.
In April 2005, near the end of his first year at UPEI, he applied for the position of sports reporter at The Cadre, the university's student newspaper, and was hired for the following school year. Several months later, the paper's sports editor resigned and Yellowjournalism was offered, and accepted, the job.
In 2006, Yellowjournalism became involved with a student group called Panther Radio, which provided an audio webcast of all home games of the UPEI Panthers men's hockey team. Sports broadcasting had long been a secondary career interest and he jumped at the opportunity to call play-by-play on a regular basis. The project added video to its webcast in fall 2007 and was renamed Panther Television.
In April 2007, the Panthers approached Yellowjournalism to write team-related articles for the Charlottetown newspaper The Guardian, most of them interviews with new players. In January 2008, during his final year of university, he began covering all Panthers home games for The Guardian.
Personal life
In November 2008, Yellowjournalism accepted a position as a sports reporter at The Clarion, a weekly community newspaper in Kindersley. After working there for two and a half years, he accepted a role as sports editor of the [http;//estevanmercury.ca/ Estevan Mercury] and began that position in April 2011.
Aside from his real-life hobbies, he is a frequent poster at Sportsnet Forums and a self-admitted Eastside Hockey Manager addict.
