Template:Infobox City in Romania Caracal is a city in the Olt county, Romania, situated in the plains between the lower reaches of the Jiu and Olt rivers.

In the city cand be found the ruins of a tower, built in the 217 by the Roman Emperor Caracalla. The city wears his name. It is also possible, that the city name is deriving from Cuman language and it means "Black fortress" (kara=black and kal, from Arabic qal'at=fortress).
