International recognition is irrelevant to the crisis, as Crimea has already signed a treaty with Russia on accession, and has never stated a desire for nation-state independence. In fact, the Crimean Prime Minister Sergei Aksyonov has specifically rejected the "the Abkhazian version" of independence supported by Russia [1] The appropriate article about the issues surrounding the Republic of Crimea's territorial status belongs at: Accession of Crimea to the Russian Federation or Republic of Crimea. This article, on the other hand, only adds to the cluttering of articles dealing with the current crisis in Ukraine and Crimea. --Tocino 06:34, 20 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
