Mornings (CBC Music)
Radio 2 Morning is the morning program on CBC Radio 2 in Canada, launched September 2, 2008. The program features a cross-genre selection of Canadian and international music.
The program airs from 6 to 9 a.m. seven days a week. Tom Power, who also hosts Radio 2's folk music program Deep Roots, has been permanent weekday host since November 2011, after a successful stint as interim host following the departure of Bob Mackowycz in late July 2011. Tom Allen, current host of Radio 2's Shift, served as weekday host prior to Mackowycz.
The weekend editions were hosted by jazz singer Molly Johnson from the show's inception until December 2013. The following month, Talia Schlanger became the host.
The program's production staff is mostly based at the Canadian Broadcasting Centre in Toronto, although Power, who lives in St. John's, occasionally hosts from the CBC's facilities in that city.[1]
Under the Covers
Starting on March 25, 2012, a call was put out to seek great cover songs to be played once a day, around 6:30am[2]. This has become a popular segment, and continues to this day.
