Weezer's Make Believe

  • Hey, I saw you deleted my changes to the Weezer-Make Believe article. I really think it's fair to say it was released to mixed reviews by both fans (especially older ones) and critics - I have seen some very negative reviews, and some older Weezer fans I know hate it, but some positive ones too. I mean, that Metacritic site which I had mentioned averages all of the reviews as a 49 out of 100, that's very middle of the road. It got 4 stars from Rolling stone, but you can't discount bad reviews just because you like Weezer or the album. Awiseman

Put those review links in the info box then. It clutters up the main text if you put them there. I agree, clearly the album has gotten mixed reviews. PetSounds 7 July 2005 21:08 (UTC)

  • Ok, will do. I'm pretty new so I didn't know how to edit that box with the star images. Awiseman 7 July 2005 21:20 (UTC)

Re: Image help

Hi. I'm not an expert by any means, but my understanding is that one cannot take an image from a website and upload it to Wikipedia unless (1) you are the copyright holder, (2) you have the copyright holder's permission, or (3) the image is in the public domain. — Fingers-of-Pyrex July 8, 2005 13:00 (UTC)

Head of Femur

Just so you know, I didn't actually know all that stuff - rather, I just merged it in from Head of femur, which had been independently created.

Credit where credit is due, you know? DS 8 July 2005 16:56 (UTC)

Oh, ok, well thanks anyway!

Good job

Good job on your creation and edits on David Nied. You're picking up how Wikipedia works very quickly. --BaronLarf July 8, 2005 17:20 (UTC)

thanks!

GIS data

Thanks. I'm aware of that site, though grudgingly it only works for me using Internet Explorer (not Firefox). More of a challenge is getting data for the surrounding jurisdictions to match up with DC's data. Montgomery County and others often charge fees. Census Tiger data will probably have to do, for roads and other features. Though, for large-scale maps of neighborhoods, the DC data would be useful. --Kmf164 21:03, 13 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

True, the Firefox thing is annoying. If you have Arcview, the ESRI Data CDs are pretty good. Though DC doesn't really have neighborhood boundaries for DC, just general areas - the city doesn't like to publish their neighborhood boundaries, since people might see it and say "Hey! I'm in Logan Circle, not Shaw!" or what have you. Awiseman 21:05, 13 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Knoxville TN

Why did you remove my edit to the Knoxville, TN website? I linked an Improv Show to their local events section only. That group has been a staple of the city for 12 years now.

Anonymous- because the other events are all once a year festivals, and that's a reoccuring thing. And now you have it in "Sites of Interest", which includes stuff like James White's Fort and Volunteer Landing. Improv comedy is not a site of interest. I'm sure it's a good group, but until there is a section where it fits, I don't think it belongs. Awiseman 16:41, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am not a member of the group. Why do you care what is linked? Are you a resident of Knoxville, TN? I have lived here for most of my life. Will you please stop acting like the expert/master of Wikipedia. [1]

My family is from Knoxville and I lived there for many years. The whole purpose of Wikipedia is for people to edit it following the rules of the site, which is what I'm doing. You are new to the site, and I appreciate your enthusiasm, but your link doesn't fit either section. If there were something like "Cultural groups" or "entertainment" then fine, but recurring improv shows are not a Site of Interest (which are places, like James White's Fort) or an Event like the others - Boomsday, Dogwoood Festival, those are all once-a-year special events. Otherwise, why not add UT football as an event, or a band that plays a bar regularly? I have nothing against the group or improv, it just doesn't fit. I've even taken improv classes before. Also, to put your signature on the post, put four tildes, it will show this: Awiseman 16:56, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Stewart McPherson

Hi, I migrated the page from Mike Chapman's Victoria Cross Reference page. What was happeneing was that all the pages were converted to wiki-format, so all that needed doing was a cut and paste over to Wikipedia. Unfortunately the site no longer exists, so I'm not sure what the current stus of the newspaper articles is, or where they're from. The only Google reference I can find for them are Wikipedia and mirror sites. MartinMcCann 13:29, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Maps of DC

Replying to your message:

"Thanks for uploading all the maps of DC, but you need to cite the copyright info or they'll be deleted. --Awiseman 00:54, 27 May 2006 (UTC)"

I don't know what other copyright info they require. The base map is a public domain document (a government document) whose copyright info is already listed here. But I've made changes to them myself and have thereby placed the new image in the public domain. What else does it need? --Msclguru 15:09, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You have to change the tags so they're listed as public domain - government. It's in the help somewhere, I've never actually done it myself. --Awiseman 15:37, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
But I created the document as it is; doesn't that make it self-made?--Msclguru 15:47, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: {{O RLY?}}

No, I did not mean to bold my comment. Please note that WP:RFD, along with all pages that discuss the deletion or lack thereof of articles, are not votes, but discussions. Therefore, there is no need to add bolding to the word that represents one's primary opinion; indeed, I specifically do not bold them, and recommend against others doing so, because it encourages the "vote" mentality, and makes people lose sight of discussion. Thanks for the message regardless.--Sean Black 18:03, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Shaka

Sorry about the really late reply, haven't logged on for a while (overworked?) but I will try and cobble something together for the article over the next week. I was hoping that the original author(s) were going to spring into action, but that's just being lazy. Thanks for your message and I'll let you know when I'm done so you can give me a second opinion. Doc Meroe 01:10, 14 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, I was trying to undo the edits by this anon who changed "Armenian" to "Assyrian". Feel free to double-check if some of his edits still remain. As for the fact that Kurds make up the majority, the source is very poor. It doesn't even show Elazığ on the map, it's obvious that Kurds are the majority in most of the rural areas, but I'd prefer that we have some text that states "Kurds are the predominate ethnic group in Elazığ". Thanks for cleaning up the article btw. —Khoikhoi 17:28, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Piracy

  • Hello Awiseman,
You might be interested to know a temporary project page for WikiProject Piracy. By the way very commendable with the efforts you've done so far. Keep up the good work! MadMax 23:07, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Beer Pong

We should focus on making Beer Pong FA, by using the references listed to add citations for every item. The article still has alot of cruft and is confusing to a non-player. Theres still way too many variations listed for every particular rule. --larsinio (poke)(prod) 18:06, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
