Dual Survival is an American reality cable television series aired on the Discovery Channel. The show features a pair of survival experts in challenging environments.[1]
For the first two seasons the show featured the differing outdoor survival philosophies and skills of Cody Lundin, a naturalist and primitive-skills expert who runs the Aboriginal Living Skills School in Arizona and Dave Canterbury, a military-trained survival instructor who runs the Pathfinder Training School in Ohio.[2] Beginning with the third season, Canterbury was replaced with Joseph "Joe" Teti and in season 4 Matt Graham replaced Lundin.
Production
Dual Survival's first and second seasons originally aired in 2010 and 2011, respectively.[3][4] A third season began production in 2012,[5] and began airing on January 1, 2013.[6] The show was renewed for a fourth season[7] with a scheduled debut on April 23, 2014.[8]
Format
In Dual Survival's first two seasons, each episode features Lundin and Canterbury in a different survival situation: marooned on a deserted island, lost in a forbidding jungle, or stranded in an arid desert. They have to survive for a number of days with minimal gear.[9] Along the way, Lundin and Canterbury demonstrate various survival skills such as using primitive methods to make fire and obtaining potable water.
Conflict often arose from differences between Lundin and Canterbury's individual survival philosophies and methods. Lundin, who does not wear shoes or long pants,[10] sometimes slowed down the duo when navigating through particularly tough terrain.[citation needed]
In season 3, Joe Teti replaced Canterbury.[11] Teti is a former Force Recon Marine and Army Special Forces soldier.[12] While in the Special Forces Teti served under Mykel Hawke who also went on to star in his own Discovery Channel survival show called Man, Woman, Wild.[13]
In February 2014, prior to the start of season 4 Cody Lundin announced via Facebook that he was fired by Discovery Channel due to what he alleges were "differences over safety and health concerns".[13][14] Early in season 4 Matt Graham replaced Cody Lundin as Teti's partner.[13] Graham was previously on another Discovery Channel survival show called Dude, You’re Screwed.[13] In October 2014, while filming Season 5, Joseph Teti was disavowed by Special Forces.
