Ain Sifni (Kurdish: ‘Eyn Sifnî, also called Shekhan) is a city and capital of the Shekhan District in the Ninawa province in Kurdistan.[1]

It's mainly populated by Assyrians and Yazidis. The Yazidi's two primary leaders, Mir (or prince) and Baba Sheikh, resides in the city.[2] Prior to the Persecution of Yazidis by ISIL, the town was the second largest population center of the Yazidis.[3]

History

Beginning on August 10, 2014, Yazidi refugees have been fleeing to the town and Lalish from Shingal through Rojava after the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant placed that city under siege.[3][4][5]
