Production

On January 28, 2014, Syfy ordered a 26-episode fifth season. This season will be split into two parts; the first 13 episodes will air in late 2014 while the remaining 13 are scheduled to air in 2015.[1] Production for part 1 began on April 22, 2014 while the second half began filming in late August 2014. The timeslot for the first half was originally 10/9c, but was switched to 8/7c at the last minute where it aired along with back-to-back episodes of Spartacus. This was due to rumors of lead-in WWE Smackdown moving to Thursdays which would've aired before Haven, starting October 2nd. But due to declining ratings, Haven returned to Friday nights, this time at 7/6c as the lead-in for Smackdown and Z Nation.[2]

Former Alphas actress Laura Mennell was cast as worldly scientist Charlotte Cross (formerly Erin Reid) who uncovers a possible cure to the Troubles.[11] According to a tweet from Eric Balfour, Emma Lahana decided not to return for season five due to family emergency, leading to speculation that her character will be either killed or written off, a fate that was revealed in "Speak No Evil".[12] Kris Lemche from season 4[13] and Jason Priestley from season 2 returned to guest star in season 5. In addition, Adam Copeland's real-life friend and former tag team partner Jason Reso (Christian) will have a role in an upcoming episode and a several more in the second half of the season.[14] William Shatner is slated to appear in the second half of season 5 in a pivotal role that has the potential to forever impact the fate of the town of Haven and its troubled residents.[4][15]
