Rupert and Buckley is a clothing brand aimed at university students.[1] The fashion label marks its clothing with the motto: "Be So Good They Can't Ignore You".

History

The company was founded in 2011 by James Buckley Thorp[2] whilst at the University of Kent where he was reading Law.[3] The company moved from Canterbury to Bath, Somerset.[4]

Having previously sold items in other outlets,[4] the company opened its first own shop in the form of a temporary pop-up shop in Bath.[1] In August 2013, Rupert and Buckley started supplying the Harrow School campus shop with socks and shower gels.[citation needed] In November 2013 the fashion label launched its "Brand Ambassador Scheme".[5]

In early 2014, 25% of the company was sold to private investor Alpha Group.[1] In September 2014, the brands first Flag Ship Store will open at 5 Burton Street, Bath, Somerset, BA1 1BN., with a 'create your own' section and a 'personal shopping experience room'.[citation needed]

Branding and Products

The brand name is a combination of the founder's surnames.[6] The company incorporates aspects of British heritage and sporting design in its products,[1] and uses a deep purple and dark yellow colour scheme for its packaging and some of its products.[6] The fashion label describes itself as 'ultra-preppy' and the image and style of the branding is for the preppy market.[5]

Rupert and Buckley's clothing ranges includes rugby shirts, blazers, t-shirts, shirts, chinos and socks.[1] The company also sells wristbands and toiletries.[7]

The company has featured in Vogue magazine three times[citation needed] and also picked up the Stocking Filler award in Marie Claire in December 2013. The 2013 pop up shop in Bath also won a pop up shop award for its creative design.[citation needed] The Times newspaper have also claimed that Rupert & Buckley is one of the fastest growing underground preppy brands and is to expect large success.[citation needed]
