Kenan & Kel was an American sitcom spin-off of All That. It aired on Nickelodeon from August 17, 1996 to April 1, 2000 for a total of 61 episodes. One full-length TV movie was created, titled Two Heads are Better than None. Laurel and Hardy are considered a major influence in the show.

The idea for the show came from Brian Robbins, who thought that Kenan and Kel had good chemistry on All That, though the creator of the show was Kim Bass.

The opening song of the show was performed by the rapper Coolio.

Characters

Major characters

Kenan Rockmore (played by Kenan Thompson): Kenan is Kel's best friend. Kenan is very smart, however he rarely accomplishes any schoolwork; instead he spends his time plotting schemes such as transforming the grocery shop at which he works into a nightclub, or telling everybody that Kel has ESP. Though good-natured, he frequently angers his parents and boss. He is proud to call Kel his best friend. He is known to look up after something bad happens, and just say "WHY!!!" Every episode ends with Kenan thinking up a great scheme, telling Kel to find some random objects, and meet him at a random place, like "Kel, bring a pie, a Spice Girl, and a VHS player and meet me at the football field" mostly confusing and disorienting Kel.

Kel Kimble (played by Kel Mitchell): Kel is Kenan's best friend. Kel is just a regular teen who loves orange soda with a passion. Since his parents are rich, busy scientists, he visits and dwells in Kenan's house very often. He gives Kenan's father a very hard time by accidentally injuring him on most of his visits. Kel might resist following Kenan's schemes, but ultimately is included anyway. Supposedly, deep down inside, Kel is a cool, peculiar teenager with his own ideas. His father is a rocket scientist and his mother is a brain surgeon, which raises the question of why Kel acts so unintelligently. Yet for his lack of general knowledge, Kel seems to do quite well academically; and he has a very high I.Q, furthermore Kel is an incredible painter and would occassionaly say long, intelligent sentences that confuse Kenan. In the beginning of each episode, Kel is never without his catch phrase: "Aww, here it goes!".

Kyra Rockmore (Vanessa Baden)

Kyra Rockmore (played by Vanessa Baden): Kyra is Kenan's sister. Kyra is also deeply in love with Kel. Kyra's biggest mission is telling on her brother Kenan, but her one true Kryptonite is her love for Kel.

Roger Rockmore (played by Ken Foree): Roger is the father of Kenan and Kyra. Roger has to deal with Kel's daily visits. He always has to be on the watch for Kel. Roger is very short tempered, especially with Kel.

Sheryl Rockmore (played by Teal Marchande): Sheryl is mother of Kenan and Kyra. Sheryl is very sweet, but she always seems to know what Kenan and Kel are up to. She's also much more patient with Kel than her husband is. Sheryl is much more of a listener than a punisher; she'd rather talk out problems with Kenan than punish him.

Chris Potter (played by Dan Frischman): Chris is the owner of the Rigby's grocery store and Kenan's boss. He lives with his mother, who is frequently mentioned throughout the show. His mother, however, was never seen on the show. While he and Kenan and Kel have some similar interests, Chris' main causes of trouble are the two of them. His character has also had dreams of being chased by a giant bunny. Kel likes to call him "Sirhc Rettop", his name spelled backwards. He also used to have a fear of sandwiches.

Minor characters

Sharla Morrison (played by Alexis Fields): Sharla was introduced as a new employee at Rigby's at the start of season three. In the show, Chris hired her because he felt Kenan needed more help around the store. While there, Sharla started to develop a crush on Kenan, and he developed a crush on her. However, they only both realized it during a prom at their high school. Their romance was not mentioned again for the remainder of the season or for the most part of season four (though Sharla and Kenan dated in one episode in the latter season).

Marc Cram (played by Biagio Messina): Marc was introduced in season three, and was an avid collector of watches. He lives with his parents and also excels at spelling, at times during conversation never mentioning a word by its name, but spelling it out (one such line is, "It looks G-R-E-A-T!").
