"Déjà Vu" is the first single released from American R&B singer Beyoncé Knowles's second solo studio album B'Day (2006). The song features rapper Jay-Z and is produced by Rodney Jerkins. It utilizes the bass, high hat, and the 808 instruments and sound system, reminiscent of many popular Rich Harrison productions. Beyonce also performed "Déjà Vu" on the 6th Annual BET Awards as a world premiere.

Music Video

The video premiered July 12th on MTV's TRL, although it was already available for viewing at MTV Overdrive. On July 13th Beyoncé talked about Déjà Vu's video on 106 & Park: BET's Top Ten Live. Singer Beyonce Knowles worked hard for her new video "Déjà Vu" in the swamps dodging alligators, snakes and bees. According to contactmusic.com, Beyonce revealed that she sweated throughout the shoot but is happy with the final cut. The video features her boyfriend Jay-Z too. She says: "I decided to go to Louisiana because it has a soul that a studio can't give you. We were in the swamps. Literally, there were alligators, snakes, bees and wasps. It was 105 degrees. All of that sweat in the video is real. That's not some spritzer. That's real."

Chart performance

The song leaked on June 13 2006 and instantly debuted on the U.S. Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart at #69 after only two days of radio airplay. It has now jumped from number sixty-nine to number twelve on that particular chart. It also debuted at number forty-four on the Hot 100. In United Kingdom, despite the official release in August, it received heavy attention from radio stations. BBC Radio 1 qualified Knowles to the B List of their playlist after only a week of radio release. Moreover, the release date is now pushed a week early from the planned schedule (formerly 21st August, now 14th) because of the early positive receptions. The video premiered July 12th on MTV's TRL, although it was already available for viewing at MTV Overdrive.
