  • Comment: I prepared and am submitting this draft about software Citrix Receiver on behalf of its producer, Citrix. I want to point out this financial conflict of interest, so that editors will review carefully for promotional language or jargon. I was careful to follow all guidelines while drafting, particularly WP:NPOV, but I can address any concerns reviewing editors might have. Additionally, I have a screenshot to add to this article, but guidelines require the article be live before I can add it. Thanks! Heatherer (talk) 21:35, 15 October 2015 (UTC)

Citrix Receiver is a client application developed by Citrix Systems. It is installed on an individual device and connects to either XenApp or XenDesktop to allow for desktop or application virtualization. It was first released in 2009.

Product overview

Citrix Receiver is a software client application developed by Citrix that is used in desktop and application virtualization by allowing users to connect to XenDesktop or XenApp.[1] Users install Citrix Receiver on their devices and are then able to access full desktops via XenDesktop or individual applications via XenApp from a centralized host, such as a server or cloud infrastructure.[2] The product's intended users are employees.[3]

Citrix Receiver is offered as a free download with XenApp and XenDesktop.[4] Citrix has made versions of Receiver for multiple platforms, including Android, iOS, Windows Desktop and phone, BlackBerry and BlackBerry PlayBook, Mac, Linux, Chrome OS and Google Chromebook. In 2011, Citrix stated Receiver was compatible with more than one billion devices.[4]

History

Citrix Receiver was announced in 2009 and the first version became available later that year.[5] The product was created as a way to streamline the use and management of the various clients Citrix had developed for its products, which it called plug-ins.[6] Citrix Receiver won several mobility awards, including a CRN Appy and "Best of Interop" award for Wireless & Mobility in 2011,[7] and a Global Mobile Award in 2012.[8]
