- Assuming good faith is when you assume that the people you are working with want to help Wikipedia, rather than hurt it.

Not following these two guidelines can lead to problems that quickly become difficult to solve. It also makes editing Wikipedia a lot less enjoyable than it should be.

Here is a list of frequently asked questions I get, and their answers.

Q: I am not logged in to Wikipedia, and I got a message from you saying that I vandalized an article that I didn't edit. What's going on?
A: No need to panic! Wikipedia uses your IP address to identify you when you are not logged in. IP addresses may be shared between multiple users, or be reassigned to different users periodically. For example, if you are at school or a coffee shop, the IP address you are using is shared by everyone using the Internet there.
The message you received was intended for someone who had previously used the IP address you are currently using. If you did not vandalize Wikipedia, you can safely ignore the message. If you get these kinds of messages frequently, you may want to consider creating an account and logging in to it. That way, any messages you get will actually be intended for you, rather than someone else who used your IP address.
Q: I am not logged into Wikipedia, and I can't edit because you have blocked me. What do I do?
A: See the above: you are probably on a shared IP address, and someone before you was editing Wikipedia inappropriately. Shared IP addresses are usually blocked from editing for long periods of time to prevent abuse. The good news is that you can usually still edit if you log in. If you don't have an account, and cannot create one because of the block, you can request an account.
Q: You reverted one of my edits. Why is that?
A: Unless I'm reverting vandalism, I usually provide an explanation for my reverts, either in my edit summary, or in a message on your user talk page. There are many reasons for reverting an edit, and each case has its own reason. If you're still not sure why I reverted your edit, you can ask me on this talk page.
Q: Are there alternate ways of contacting you?
A: For wiki-related inquiries, you can also reach me at the following venues:
- Discord – I can be found on the unofficial Wikipedia Discord server under the username k6ka. Please do not send me a friend request; just mention my username in any public channel and I'll respond when I get a chance to.
- Email – You must be logged in and have an email address registered with your account to use this feature.

Give me a reason

I've read the article about the notability, now. Can you give me a reason why do you keep putting a speedy deletion notice for an article i spent a long time building... this is all i get? @AfrcnBeauty23: You're not allowed to remove speedy deletion tags from articles that you have created yourself. Here's a thing, I didn't ask you to tell me what am I not allowed to do, or what am I doing to commit vengeance on someone... I'm asking you to give me a reason why do you keep putting a notice on my article, this isn't personal, it's business. I've read the notability article. and as far as I know, I've reached the line... so why are you doing that? what are your reasons? this isn't about you or me.. it's about my article. Maybe just review it again, I'm not forcing you to remove the notice, I'm just asking for a reason so that I would know what to do, and no. this is not an alternate account, just so you know... @AfrcnBeauty23: Because it genuinely is not notable. When I Google the subject, I can only find links to social media websites. Anyone can simply create an account on any of those websites to get their identity on the web. That doesn't make them notable for inclusion on Wikipedia. We need some reliable sources to prove that the subject 1) Exists, and 2) Is worth including on Wikipedia. If you want to keep your work, you may find the Drafts namespace to be of benefit. Okay then... problem solved right? I knew I should have done this article somewhere else, but thanks, I hade a cool experience here in wiki, as a writer, it improved me... I knew better things, and I knew how to be less childish, speaking of being childish, I'm sorry I slapped a CSD tag on someone else's article just to commit vengeance, I mean it. Okay, I better get going now, my experience here today in wiki as an article writer changed how I see this website, everybody must have been working hard here... thanks again, nice meeting you.. Changes this week

You can use TemplateData to indicate how you want a template to be displayed in wikitext. Tools like VisualEditor that edit templates will soon use this information. [1]
Echo notification icons in MonoBook will look more like other icons in the theme. [2]
The Community Tech team is doing a community wishlist survey to understand what they should be working on. They are now accepting proposals in all languages. You can create your proposal in the small box above the blue button and click it when you're done.
Wikis can make the welcome notification link to a specific page. [3]
The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from November 17. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis from November 18. It will be on all Wikipedias from November 19 (calendar).

Meetings

You can join the next meeting with the VisualEditor team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 17 November at 19:00 (UTC). See how to join.

Future changes

Internet Explorer 8 will no longer have JavaScript support. You will still be able to browse and edit Wikipedia, but will not be able to use some features. This can be solved by upgrading to a newer version or switching to a different browser. The change will happen in January 2016. [4][5]

For some reason, I got 2 revert notices from you for vandalism that not only were NOT made by me, but weren't shown as being part of my account. I've been editing here for years, and obviously have never vandalized once (why would I). Can you please look into this when you have a chance, and let me know if my account has somehow been compromised? I don't think it has, however - I have certainly never given anybody my password...online or offline. Thanks.

@Bomb319: You were "pinged" because my warning message contained a link to your userpage. Wikipedia has a system called Echo (notifications) that pings people if someone makes an edit on a discussion page that contains a link to their userpage (Like this message; I used the {{Ping}} template, which really just links to your userpage, so you get pinged). You were pinged because my warning message contained a link to your userpage, not because I sent you a message or that you did anything wrong. The message was intended for the IP user, not you. Hello, I originally made that request but my IP address changed, it was never answered properly as you will be able to see that the user who initially answered never replied after I suggested a compromise instead they changed it so it appeared to be answered, but it never was. Bot automation at Wikipedia:Today's articles for improvement

Greetings WikiProject TAFI members!

Over the past two weeks, there has been extensive discussion on introducing bot automation to assist with maintenance of the Today's Articles for Improvement project. A bot has now been approved for trial and will carry out the weekly duties. The bots first run will occur around 00:00, 22 November 2015 (UTC) (midnight on Sunday).

If you have been assisting any of the weekly maintenance tasks, please refrain from doing so this week. The bot needs to be tested and proven it can do the job, and it only gets one chance per week. The tasks will include:

Adding the new scheduled article to Wikipedia talk:Today's articles for improvement and removing the entry from Wikipedia:Articles for improvement
Set up the schedule pages for the new TAFI, except the adding of an image and caption
Adding {{TAFI}} to the new article for improvement, remove {{TAFI}} from last week's article and add {{Former TAFI}} to the talk page
Notify relevant WikiProjects that the new TAFI is within their scope
Send a mass message to everyone on the notification list of the new TAFI selection

Updating the accomplishments and archiving selections is still done manually, along with daily tasks such as adding approved entries to the articles for improvement page. These will become automated in the near future.

We hope the bot proves to serve well, and by carrying out the routine housekeeping tasks we can boost the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the project. MusikBot thanks you for your service in helping with the weekly tasks in the past, and for your cooperation during this trial period :)
