First Lady of the Russian Federation is the unofficial title given[by whom?] to the wife of the President of Russia. The post is highly ceremonial.[citation needed]

Role of the First Lady

The first lady is not an elected position, carries no official duties and brings no salary[citation needed]. Nonetheless she attends many official ceremonies and functions of state[citation needed] either along with or in place of the president[citation needed]. There is a strict taboo against the First Lady holding outside employment while occupying the office.[citation needed]
