Information icon Hello, I'm Eteethan. I wanted to let you know that I reverted one of your recent contributions —the one you made with this edit to Naval mine— because it didn’t appear constructive to me. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Eteethan(talk) 13:51, 15 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

If this is a shared IP address, and you did not make the edits, consider creating an account for yourself so you can avoid further irrelevant notices.

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Paternoster has been reverted.
Your edit here to Paternoster was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links which are discouraged per our external links guideline. The external link(s) you added or changed (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XX0tYqS6URA) is/are on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. If the external link you inserted or changed was to a media file (e.g. a sound or video file) on an external server, then note that linking to such files may be subject to Wikipedia's copyright policy, as well as other parts of our external links guideline. If the information you linked to is indeed in violation of copyright, then such information should not be linked to. Please consider using our upload facility to upload a suitable media file, or consider linking to the original.
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other, constructive, changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! --XLinkBot (talk) 02:52, 21 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
If this is a shared IP address, and you didn't make the edit, please ignore this notice.

Admiral of the Fleet (Royal Navy), et al.

I have reverted some of your recent edits to RN subjects which referred to shoulder boards. I suggest that you read the relevant BR. - David Biddulph (talk) 16:20, 29 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@David Biddulph: And that is a reference for the term 'shoulder board'? The term 'shoulder board' appears in the document nowhere but it does introduce a new term 'shoulder rank board'. I'm sorry but the term 'shoulder board' or any variation thereof is US English. The British English term is 'epaulette' and is what they were called when I was imvolved with the armed services (admittedly a good many years ago now).
Creeping Americanisation of the English language must be resisted. 86.145.215.191 (talk) 16:28, 29 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You'd better read the document again (or use the search facility). The term "shoulder board" is used 4 times in the document. - David Biddulph (talk) 16:31, 29 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Regardless: that they use the term and your claim that that document is somehow an authority on the English language is WP:SYNTHESIS because nowhere does it make that claim. 86.145.215.191 (talk) 16:34, 29 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
As you are aware, I didn't claim that the document was an authority on the English language in general, but it is indeed an authority on the Royal Navy (and the Royal Navy in 2015, not at whatever date your experience of the armed services may have been). David Biddulph (talk) 18:39, 29 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@86.145.215.191: - if you can quote wiki-policy, you can read it. Start with WP:OR. Your "involvement with the armed services" is irrelevant here. - theWOLFchild 21:31, 29 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Just a friendly hint - you seem to be missing the fact that 08:10, 31 December 2015 is more than 24h later than 00:09, 30 December 2015‎. Burninthruthesky (talk) 17:22, 2 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Burninthruthesky: I'm not missing anything but rather you are. Please refer to WP:3RR. Making four reverts in 24 hours is a bright line automatic block. However, making four reverts not within 24 hours is still edit warring and is still blockable at an administrator's discretion. I did make it clear that the 4RR was not within 24 hours, but it is still 4RR. 86.145.215.191 (talk) 11:46, 3 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
