Steve Meyerowitz Sproutman

Steve was pronounced "Sproutman" by Vegetarian Times Magazine in a 1979 feature article that explored the why's and wherefores of his 100% sprout diet. While over 2 decades time, most diets change, Steve is still a big "believer" in healthy diet and lifestyle.

Steve got interested in natural foods after a 20 year effort to correct chronic allergies and asthma with conventional medicine. He made dramatic changes in his diet and within two months of eating a strict "living foods," vegetarian diet, his lifelong symptoms vanished. He continued to practice a 100% raw foods diet (nothing cooked, packaged, canned, frozen, or processed) for five years. During that time, he also experimented with other extreme diets such as fruitarianism (just fruit), juice fasting for as long as 100 days, and briefly, breatharianism (no food, no water).

Steve's innovative kitchen gardening techniques and the cuisine he developed from them, gave rise to a "School for Sprouts." He began teaching indoor gardening 12 stories above the streets of New York City. He called his no-cooking school, The Sprout House, since so much of his cuisine included vegetables from his kitchen garden-sprouts. Steve invented two home sprouters, The Flax Sprout Bag and a tabletop greenhouse called, Sproutman's Kitchen Garden Salad Grower. He also supplied his growing kits and a full line of organic sprouting seeds via mail order.

Steve has since sold the mail order business and he and his family now breathe fresher air in the Berkshire mountains of Massachusetts. Much of the information from his teaching years have been related in his books. He has the most popular books on sprouts, including Sprouts the Miracle Food, Sproutman's Kitchen Garden Cookbook, and Wheatgrass Nature's Finest Medicine, to name a few. But he also has other books on subjects such as fasting and raw juice therapy.

Steve has been featured on PBS, the Home Shopping Network, TV Food Network, and in Prevention, Better Nutrition, and Organic Gardening magazines. In 3 minutes on QVC, 953 people ordered his Cookbook and Kitchen Garden Salad Grower.

Shmuel Ashkenasi, Israeli Violinist

Chicago-based Israeli-born violinist Shmuel Ashkenasi has distinguished himself as quartet leader, soloist, and educator. He was born in 1943 in Israel and studied with Ilona Feher, teacher of such great violinists as Pinchas Zuckerman and Shlomo Mintz. He then studied at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia with Efrem Zimbalist. Ashkenasi was awarded top prizes in competitions such as the Tchaikovsky, Queen Elizabeth of Belgium, and Merriweather Post. In 1969 he founded the Vermeer Quartet, one of the premier string quartets of its time at the Marlboro Festival. The quartet has been in residence at Northern Illinois University and Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England.

Shmuel Ashkenasi's recording of Paganini Violin Concertos No. 1 and 2 with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra is one of the most fantastic recodings in existence of this virtuosic repertoire. In fact Shmuel Ashkenasi has a devoted "cult-like" following of many musicians. His playing is characterised by a sweet, full tone, with impeccable technique and musical taste. He is regarded by many as the greatest violinist to ever occupy the first violin chair of a major string quartet. He is currently Professor of Violin at the Hochschule fur Musik in Lubeck, Germany, Professor of Violin at Roosevelt University in Chicago, and has recently been appointed to the faculty of his alma mater, the Curtis Institute of Music.

Case study on X Company

Mr. Gunasekera was a graduate at University of Sri Jayewardenepura in Business Administration. He was an old boy of Ananda College. And he was a school coloursman in cricket. He has been working at X company as a general manager-sales since 1990.In his 15 years of service he won many awards for the best achieving sales person. He married a lawyer and has one child who also an Anandian in grade 1.Two weeks ago he was given a special assignment of evaluating a foreign funded project. He was given this task apart from his normal schedule and because of that he has been very busy with that. On this particular day he couldn’t attend parents meeting at a school. This is the first time such a lapse took place. He was so worried about this. On that day he had to conduct an interview to select a person for an executive post and this was the final interview and he was given full authority to select. But managing director should make the final decision. All 4 people in this interview had proven that they are well ahead of other candidates in their personality, communication skills, and qualifications.

Following are the details of each candidate.

Asita Amarasekera – Age 25 , CIM qualified, studied at Royal College. Having 2 years working experience at multi national company, school prizewinner and was a president of school Creative Writers Circle. Planning to start PGDM at university of Colombo.

Ruklanthi Gunawardena-Age 27, A Visakian, graduated at University of Sabaragamuwa, completed intermediate of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka. Was a member of school debating team, now working as an executive in leading insurance company.

Supun Weerarathne – age 24,an old Anandian, graduated at university of kelaniya, now working as a management trainee in small software company. He played cricket for school team and was a pool member for sri lanka under 19 cricket team. Remarks-before coming to the interview he came to know that Mr. Gunasekera is also an old Anandian.

Sudaraka Jayasinghe- Age 26,Graduate of university of sri Jayewardenepura, also qualified in CIM, old boy of Isipatana college, he was a scout in school. He is working at a company for 2 years and the business he is involving with is more similar to X Company.

Every candidate has given equal opportunity ,and Mr. Gunasekera finally selected Supun weerarathne as an Executive. In his evaluation he mentioned that all scored equal marks how Supun played school cricket and he is a team player and this is the main reason for him to be selected.

Sudaraka Jayasinghe complained to the MD that as the most qualified and most experienced person he is ignored and not properly interviewed by Mr. Gunasekera. But as a professional company the Managing Director also agreed with Mr.Gunasekera’s selection. However he doubt that this person has been selected because of the school and sport he played because he personally know that Mr Gunasekera is an old Anandian and played cricket for school team. When he asked informally about the matter Mr. Gunasekera replied that he selected Supun on the basis of merit and agreed that his busy schedule made him to reduce the time of interview with the last person (Sudaraka) We can analyze this problem under the subject of perception.

Approach

But evident indicates that interviews make perceptual judgements that are often inaccurate. Interviews generally draw early impressions that become very quickly entrenched. If negative information is exposed early in the interview, it tends to be more heavily weighted than it that same information comes out later.

What is Perception

‘Process which individuals organize and interpret their sensory impressions in order to give meanings to their environment'

Four People can view the same event at the same time, and each will report in total honesty a story different from all the others. For example, Japanese film Rashomon tells the story of the abduction and rape of a woodcutter’s wife and the murder of her husband. First from the point of view of the bandit , hen that of the wife, then the husband and, finally that of a hidden bystander. Each participant perceived the events that occurred in a different way. Hard to believe? Not really. For each individual, reality is a totally personal phenomenon, based on that person’s needs, wants, values, and personal experiences.

Individuals may look at the same thing, not perceive it differently.

How people select, organized and interpret the information about their environment.

The word ‘person’ derives from Latin persona, an actor’s mask, a character in a play. This suggests that our behaviour in workplaces is similar to acting: the way we dress/behave/interact can tell others not only who we are, but also how we want to be perceived (formal, relaxed, businesslike etc.). As many of us know, this becomes especially important at a job interview. And it is not just we trying to create a certain impression; others, in their turn, see us through the filter of their own biases and previous experiences. Thus, the process of perception is far from being objective, it can lead to stereotyping, discrimination, sexism etc.

Stages of the perceptual process.

1. Information attention and selection. 2. Organization of information. 3. Information interpretation. 4. Information retrieval.

Information attention and selection. – Selective screening.  Lets in only a tiny proportion all the information that bombards a person. – Two types of selective screening.  Controlled processing.  Screening without perceiver’s conscious awareness.

Organization of information. – Schemas.  Cognitive frameworks that represent organized knowledge about a given concept or stimulus developed through experience. – Types of schemas.  Self schemas.  Person schemas.  Script schemas.  Person-in-situation schemas.

Information interpretation.

– Uncovering the reasons behind the ways stimuli are grouped. – People may interpret the same information differently or make different attributions about information.

Information retrieval.

– Attention and selection, organization, and interpretation are part of memory. – Information stored in memory must be retrieved in order to be used.

Social perception

--Nalinabeysekera 03:56, 5 September 2006 (UTC)--Nalinabeysekera 03:56, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In our case study if Mr .Gunasekera is a perceiver and his personality, his mind set in that time, his experience can be take as important matters in social perception. When we think MD is a perceiver these factors similarly shape his perception too. Mr .Gunasekera’s point of view other candidates regarded as person perceived. Appearance of that person, communication skills, behaviors are the factors, which influence to perceiver to make decision. Characteristics of the situation also important and location and the organizational structure as well.

Attribution Theory

Individual behavior

1. Internally caused 2. Externally caused

In our case Mr. Gunasekera behavior was caused internally as well as externally. In his informal discussion with MD it was clear that he over estimate influences of internal factors and underestimate external factors. It seems to be he overestimate the internal factors –he is believing that he make the right selection and underestimate the external factors like the situation he was in that time (his busy schedule, couldn’t attend for his child’s parents meeting)-this type of behaviour called the fundamental attribution error.

Frequently used shortcuts in judging others Selective perception

People selectively interpret what they see on the basis of their interest, background, experience and attitude.

Mr Gunasekera is an Anandian and he is having a background as a sportsman .also it is been unavoidable that he is having positive attitude and interest towards Supun.

Halo Effect

A general impression about on individual on the basis of single characteristics such as intelligence, sociably, or appearance.

We can come to the conclusion that Mr Gunasekera has been selected Supun because of his school.

Projection

Easy to judge others if we assume they are similar to us. people who engage in projection tend to perceive others according to what they themselves are like rather than according to what the person being observed is really like.

Some times Mr, Gunasekera’s perception about Supun:

“All Anandians are similar to me”

Actually it calls attributing one’s own characteristics to others. Stereotyping

Judging someone on the basis of one’s perception of the group to which that person belongs.

Mr Gunasekera was believed that all cricket players are good team members like him so he perceived Supun also like that.

Perception of MD

MD also comes to that conclusion (why Mr. Gunasekera selected Supun) because of Halo effect. -Since Mr. Gunasekera is an anandian he made this decision. also we can referred to the concept of Stereotyping because he personally knew that Mr. Gunasekera had played school and Supun also did the same.

Perception of Supun

Contrast effect- “ Evaluation of persons characteristics that are affected by comparisons with others recently encountered who rank higher or lower on the same characteristics”

Supun came to know that Mr Gunasekera was an anandian before going to that interview so he was perceived to be rank higher than others .it can assumed that it may boost his confidence.

Conclusion

We use number of short cuts when we judging others. However, they are not foolproof. They can and do get us into trouble. An understanding of these shortcuts can be helpful toward recognizing when they can result in significant distortions. So we should understand the outcomes of these perceptual errors to minimize the errors in decision-making. Because these judgments have important consequences for the organization. If the employment interview is an important input into the hiring decision –and it usually is-you should recognize that perceptual factors influence who is hired and eventually the quality of an organization’s labor force.

Ramalinga Raju completed his B.Com. from Loyola college, Vijayawada and MBA from Ohio University, USA. Intotech was not the next stop. It was only after a decade that Raju moved into IT before which he honed his business skills in the construction and textile industries. Raju started Satyam Computer in 1987, more as a hobby than a serious business intent. Ramalinga Raju's hallmark has been his pioneering drive into new areas, his entrepreneurship, and his risk taking ability. And these are the traits that helped distinguish the Satyam group from the others. His "Concept of Circles" structure does away with conventional pyramidical hierarchy and empowers individuals to act as chief executives of their mini-organizations. Raju has also been a pioneer in challenging the traditional modes of doing business: jumping into exports early while others chose domestic work as a first base, or starting an Internet service to get the feel of the Internet space. All these initiatives have had a multiplier effect on Satyam's revenues. Since 1993, revenues have grown 146-fold since 1993, and profits, 149 times. 218.111.43.133 05:35, 5 September 2006 (UTC) (SPOOL) Accessing peripheral devices with the help of an off-line tape drive. The term was derived by IBM for use with the IBM 360 operating systems.[reply]

In the early days of computing (early 1960s), before multitasking was invented, computers (e.g. IBM 704) could run only one job at a time. As peripheral devices such as printers or card readers were much slower than the CPU, devoting the computer (the only computer in many cases) to controlling such devices was impractical.

To free the CPU for useful work, the output was sent to a magnetic tape drive, which was much faster than a printer and much cheaper than a computer. After the job was finished the tape was removed from the tape drive attached to the computer and mounted on a tape drive connected to a printer (such as the IBM 1403). The printer could then print the data without holding up the computer. Similarly, instead of inputting the program from the card reader it was first copied to a tape and the tape was read by the computer.

Tanzania's citizens of european ethnicity

Enrico The first europeans who touched Tanzania’s coasts were the Portuguese, in the late XVth century, but they all fled the country before the end of the XVII century.

The first permanent european settlers there were Germans. During all the XIXth century hundred thousands of german peasants emigrated to the Americas to find land to coltivate. German authorities, when they reached controlof Tanzania, tried to re-direct there that flow of emigrants. The government gave to the settlers the land which would be touched by the railway. Until 1914, about 3,000 people had arrived in Tanganyika from Germany to settle down. With the WW1, german immigration stopped, and the english one started (the english themselves got the mandate for the territory from the League of Nations). In the Mandate Legislative Council, established in 1926, twelve members were english officials chosen by the governor, while ten members were chosen by and between the white settlers. In 1935 they were 8230 counting both eglish and german settlers, with a population of 5 mil.; Dar-es-Salam, the biggest town of the country at that time, got 700 europeans (mainly germans) on 33,000 inhabitants. From 1945, white people increasingly lose their influence in Tanzania’s politics. From the independence (1961) power went almost completely in the hands of black natives. Tanzania’s citizens of european descent were estimated to be a little less than 17,000 in the early ‘90s, and they were estimated to be 10,000 in 2006.

European people occupies mainly the proximities of mounts Meru and Kilimanjaro. They cultivates tobacco, tea, coffee, cocoa, banana trees, cotton, sugar cane and a few other crops.

Aboriginal sacred Sights

Aboriginal Sights are often very protected.this is because they are sacred. there are many types of sights. like the Pinnacles, Lake Narran/MoonLake and a very well known one Uluru. please accept my apoligies i do not know ,uch about sacred sights ok thanks.10:01, 5 September 2006 (UTC)10:01, 5 September 2006 (UTC)~~×÷←§

structural damping

In many inert and living materials, the relationship between elastic and frictional stresses turns out to be very nearly invariant. This close relationship between frictional and elastic stresses is called the structural damping law (1, 2, 3, 4) or, sometimes, the constant phase model (5). The structural damping law implies that frictional losses are coupled tightly to elastic stresses rather than to viscous stresses, but the precise molecular mechanical origin of this phenomenon remains unknown (1,2).

In material science, the complex elastic modulus of a material, G*(f), at frequency of oscillatory deformation, f, is given by,

G*(f)=G'+jG

where:

   * G*(f)= complex elastic modulus at frequency of oscillatory deformation, f
   * G’ = the elastic modulus
   * G” = the loss modulus
   * j^^2 = -1

This relationship can be rewritten as,

G*(f)=G'(1 + jh)

where:

   * h = G”/G’.

In systems conforming to the structural damping law, the hysteresivity "h" is constant with or insensitive to changes in oscillatory frequency, and the loss modulus G” (= h G’) becomes a constant fraction of the elastic modulus.

RadCom magazine

RadCom is the monthly magazine published by the Radio Society of Great Britain and is provided free to all corporate members of the Society. Typically 100 pages, it includes a mixture of news, theory, construction and technical articles of interest to the amateur radio community.

RadCom is the largest circulation amateur radio related magazine in the UK and is respected world-wide as a major voice of amateur radio.

History

First published in July 1925 as the T. & R. Bulletin [T. & R. = Transmitting and Receiving], the magazine changed its name to RSGB Bulletin in July 1942. In 1968 the name changed again to Radio Communication, which was abbreviated to RadCom in January 1995.

Content and coverage

As the house journal of the Radio Society of Great Britain, RadCom covers all matters directly related to the Society. The remaining pages are devoted to a number of regular columns such as Low Frequency, Amateur Television, VHF/UHF, Electromagnetic Compatibility, Propagation, Contesting and many other subjects. There are two or three in-depth technical articles per month, plus reviews of new equipment and other features which relate to amateur radio as a whole.
