Pristin (Korean프리스틴, formerly known as Pledis Girlz) is a South Korean pre-debut girl group team formed by Pledis Entertainment in 2016. Several members of the group appeared on the television show Produce 101 and, as the prize for becoming two of the top contestants, members Nayoung and Jieqiong have gone on to debut as part of the project girl group I.O.I.

History

Pre-debut

In 2013, some of the members performed alongside their labelmates Seventeen during their Like Seventeen concerts.[1] Nayoung also made appearances in a number of music videos, including Kye Bum-zu's "Game Over",[2] TROY's "Why Are We"[3] and Hanhae's "Man of the Year".[4] All of the members of Pledis Girlz appeared as backup dancers in Orange Caramel's music video for their 2014 single "My Copycat".[5]

In 2015, Eunwoo, Yebin, and Jieqiong appeared in the Seventeen's music video for "Mansae".[6] Prior to joining Pledis Entertainment, Eunwoo had been a contestant on the television shows Superstar K4 and The Voice Kids.

Seven of the Pledis Girlz members (Nayoung, Mingyeong, Kyungwon, Eunwoo, Yebin, Jieqiong, and Siyeon) competed in the Mnet K-pop trainee survival television program Produce 101, which aired from January 22 to April 1, 2016. While five of the members were eliminated, Nayoung and Jieqiong became part of the final lineup for the project girl group I.O.I, which made its debut on May 4 with the single "Dream Girls".

Yewon served as a backdancer during Seventeen's concert in February 2016. Eunwoo was featured on a single by Seventeen's Vernon entitled "Sickness", part of the soundtrack for the webtoon Love Revolution on March 23. Between May 14–September 10, 2016, the group members, with the exception of Nayoung and Jieqiong, who were promoting with I.O.I, performed in weekly concerts. On June 27, they released a single titled "We", which was composed by Eunwoo and Sungyeon and written by Mingyeong, Eunwoo, Sungyeon, and Siyeon.

In July 2016, Sungyeon became a contestant on JTBC's singing competition Girl Spirit.

On January 6, 2017 the group held their last concert as Pledis Girlz, "BYE & HI", revealing their official group name to be Pristin, a mix of the words "Prismatic" and "Elastin".
