SHOWstudio.com is a fashion website founded and directed by Nick Knight. Since its conception in 2000 the site has championed fashion film and illustration, acting as a platform to showcase the entire creative process behind the previously closed world of high fashion[1][2].

MACHINE-A

In 2015, SHOWstudio began its long-standing collaboration with MACHINE-A[3], founded by Stravos Karelis and based at 13 Brewer Street, London. Together, they supply selected items from high-end brands conceptualized by designers whose work is featured prominently on the site, including Raf Simons, Hood by Air, Sibling, and J.W. Anderson, in order to educate consumers on the cultural, creative and artistic significance of the designers.[4]

Projects

  • 2000: SHOWstudio launched on 27 November 2000 at 19:27 GMT
  • 2001: First live webcam broadcast, ‘'Sleep'’, allowed SHOWstudio’s audience to log in and view the first ever global, live fashion shoot.
  • 2004: ‘'Design Download: Alexander McQueen'’ launches - the first project allowing viewers to download a designer’s pattern and construct a garment.[6]
  • 2005: ‘'Moving Fashion'’ a two month series of fashion shorts by leading industry figures, ‘Bring & Buy’ project in collaboration with i-D magazine raises £19,200 for Oxfam.[7]
  • 2007: 24HRS, a twenty-four-hour live fashion broadcast in collaboration with Yves Saint Laurent.
  • 2009: SHOWstudio.com moves to Mayfair and opens SHOWstudio Shop.[4]
    • SHOWstudio collaborated with Alexander McQueen and IMG to exclusively broadcast McQueen’s Spring/Summer 2010 show ‘Plato’s Atlantis’ live online.[8][9][10]
    • The exhibition ‘SHOWstudio: Fashion Revolution’ opens at London's Somerset House, providing a retrospective of the site's work to date alongside a programme of fashion film curated by Nick Knight and a series of live fashion shoot staged before a public audience.[11][12][13][14]
  • 2010: Live In Camera interview with Lady Gaga receives almost 26,000 question submissions and is watched by over 60,000 viewers.[15]
  • 2011: Nick Knight directs the video for Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’, SHOWstudio showcases the video and projects based on Knight’s artwork for the album.[16][17][18]
  • 2012: Nick Knight undertakes the world’s first Instagram fashion shoot with model Cara Delevingne.[19][20]
  • 2013: Nick Knight utilises 3D scanning for Kanye West’s 2013 music video ‘BLKKK SKKKN HEAD’.[23][24][25]
  • 2015: The first ever Fashion Film Awards in collaboration with QIC Global Real Estate sees upwards of 500 submissions from over 54 different countries.[26][27]
    • The seminal Unseen McQueen project celebrated the life of the late McQueen and his fruitful bond with Nick Knight in conjunction with the opening of 'Savage Beauty' at the V&A in March 2015.[28][29]
  • 2016: Nick Knight’s first major solo exhibition at Daelim Magazine, Seoul sees work exhibited as fine art in Korea.[30][31]
    • 2016: ‘Shoot Style Draw’ - #StyleShootDraw: Knight and 20 artists depicted a series of models in their own respective mediums and streaming it to the public on a Facebook Live broadcast, collaboration with GARAGE Magazine, encompasses a high fashion photoshoot and a luxury life drawing class.[32]
