Super Mario 64 DS (formerly known as Super Mario 64x4) is an update of the 1996 video game Super Mario 64 for the Nintendo DS. This game will be one of the launch titles with the DS.

Players will have the ability to play as Mario, Luigi, Wario, or Yoshi. Each character will have unique abilities and movesets, as in Super Mario Bros. 2. Luigi will have an extra-high backflip and the ability to run for short distances over water, Wario will be able to break things that the other characters can't, and Yoshi will be able to swallow enemies and perform a "hover jump", much like in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. In addition, there are power flowers that have different effects for each character. Mario will become a balloon and float like in Super Mario World, Luigi will turn invisible, Wario will transform into metal, and Yoshi will breathe fire.

There are 150 stars in the game -- an addition of 30 from the original. Some stars are restricted to certain characters. At least two new courses have been revealed, excluding multiplayer courses and minigames.
