You left a comment about the Quinlan redirect project a while back. To give you mu 2p worth of opinion... its a judgement call. I have changed some where it couldn't alter, but might clarify the discussion. OTOH if its a User or User Talk page, I'm more hesitant, since I view those as private property. Your strike and not approach is fine and can't bother anyone. Keep up the effort, and thanks ....Lou I 17:13, 6 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for your comments, I'll consider them, when I next do some redirecting. Silverfish 17:27, 6 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Why are you creating these strange redirects like England Hull, They seem completley unnecesary to me. Mintguy (T) 22:27, 11 Mar 2004 (UTC)

That would be because they appeared at Wikipedia:List_of_encyclopedia_topics, in particular for England Hull, on page 23. The idea, as I understand it, is to see where there are other encylopaedias with entries we haven't got. Without the redirects, it would look like we didn't have an entry on Hull, for example. The 'England' redirects are an exception, most seem to be more sensible re-directs, such as this one Eminent_Domain, re-directing Eminent Domain to Eminent domain. Silverfish 22:37, 11 Mar 2004 (UTC)
Yes I just discovered this after posting the above comment. Interesting idea. Mintguy (T) 22:42, 11 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Sorry about trampling your edit in Sideshow Bob. I agree it's a good one. Glad to see you put it back in. That was my first revert and I was only trying to get rid of the stuff added at the bottom. Maybe I should have just cut it instead. I guess I went for the revert because it somehow seemed a more neutral action. Oska 01:46, Jul 14, 2004 (UTC)

The Humungous Image Tagging Project[edit]

Hi. You've helped with the Wikipedia:WikiProject Wiki Syntax, so I thought it worth alerting you to the latest and greatest of Wikipedia fixing project, User:Yann/Untagged Images, which is seeking to put copyright tags on all of the untagged images. There are probably, oh, thirty thousand or so to do (he said, reaching into the air for a large figure). But hey: they're images ... you'll get to see lots of random pretty pictures. That must be better than looking for at at and the the, non? You know you'll love it. best wishes --Tagishsimon (talk)

Interesting, I've had a bit of a look at it, and I'll probably give it a go at some point. Silverfish 00:28, 9 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Article Licensing[edit]

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

Hi Silverfish,

I moved User:Silverfish\Verifying Images to User:Silverfish/Verifying Images, and User:Silverfish\Images Uploaded to User:Silverfish/Images Uploaded. "Silverfish\Verifying Images" is a possible username, whereas "Silverfish/Verifying Images" is a subpage of "Silverfish".

Size[edit]

Hey, I just want to ask how you find out the information for size of an article? I noticed you listed the stats here Wikipedia:Gaming Collaboration of the week/History and I've wanted to know where this information can be found for quite sometime. Thanks. K1Bond007 00:28, Mar 3, 2005 (UTC)

Have a look at the discussion page for the GCOTW, there's instructions there, under the "article size stats" heading, where I had to ask. Silverfish 15:32, Mar 3, 2005 (UTC)

Strike series[edit]

I've noticed it failed to get enough votes to keep itself on the GCOTW, but considering that I've spent an awful lot of time playing with them and the article I was planning to develop now (Constructor) still is in the GCOTW, I've picked up on it and wrote a few lines on the Mega Drive games. Since you proposed the article initially, I was wondering if you could give a little input there. Cheers, wS 07:29, 9 Mar 2005 (UTC)

You seem to have covered a fair amount, so I could think of anything much to add, without further research. I have had a look through, copyediting. There were a few sentence fragments, that I've deleted. I've also taken a screenshot for Desert Strike. I'll probably do a bit more at some point. Thanks for getting in touch Silverfish 16:44, Mar 9, 2005 (UTC)

Senator Images[edit]

Hi Silverfish, sorry to take so long to respond, buy you asked me back in January where I got my pictures of various Senators and Representatives. The source I've been using is the Biographical Directory of the United State Congress, http://bioguide.congress.gov/biosearch/biosearch.asp. The pictures of Senators and Reps are public domain, and provided for scholarship and educational purposes. Pm06420 02:18, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Comment[edit]

Now seriously, thank you for sorting the math articles! Oleg Alexandrov 21:14, 18 September 2005 (UTC)

I'm glad I'm appreciated Oleg :) By the way, I've proposed a few more Mathematics stub types here: Wikipedia:WikiProject_Stub_sorting/Proposals#More_Math_stubs. Any comments would be appreciated. Silverfish 23:37, 26 September 2005 (UTC)

Good. I would like to see some specific suggestions for new math stub types. Then I will comment. :) Oleg Alexandrov 01:02, 27 September 2005 (UTC)
I've been more specific about what new stub types I'm proposing. Is that what you're looking for? Silverfish 17:11, 28 September 2005 (UTC)

Baker's map[edit]

The Baker's map was recently sorted as a stub in applied mathematics. Given the lack of a dynamical systems stub, I feel that math stub is more appropriate than applied math stub. I tend to think of applied mathematics as mathematics that is motivated by applications in physics, chemistry, economics, engineering, and other areas of human endeavor that deal with the physical world and human societies. The Baker's map is an example from dynamical systems, one of the largest areas of mathematics. Granted, dynamical systems had its origins in physics, but the field has evolved to a point where the majority of practitioners are motivated by the internal structure of the field rather than its applications (I am in the application camp).

A search through the SIAM journals will find few mentions of the Baker's map. Physics journals have many articles mentioning the Baker's map. Physicists also use calculus, but that does not make calculus a topic of applied mathematics. Could you create a new dynamical systems stub category or reverse it back to a math stub? XaosBits 22:44, 2 October 2005 (UTC)

I see where you are coming from. I don't know that much about Dynamical systems. My logic in including Dynamical systems is that from what I do know, it appeared that the subject linked reasonably closely to various applications. For example, it is a sub-category at the moment of Cybernetics and Mechanics, which are clearly physics or applied mathematics. In the case of the Baker map the article mentions applications to physics. Anyway, if there are enough entries then I have no objection to having a seperate Dynamical systems category. Until then, would you be prepared to accept having dynamical systems as part of applied mathematics (with a note to say that on the category page), to help reduce the size of the Math stub category, with a view to having a new category later if there are enough articles to make it worth it? Silverfish 13:13, 6 October 2005 (UTC)

Distraction[edit]

I moved the game show information to Distraction (game show). If User:Roaming plans to expand on the term (and not the show), this would clean up the article. -- Perfecto 23:23, 10 December 2005 (UTC)

That seems very sensible. I was thinking of doing something similar myself. Have you checked that the links to the game show now link there? If not, I'll probably have a look at that myself. Silverfish 23:53, 10 December 2005 (UTC)
Actually, I've just checked the links, and updated those pointing to the game show.

Image:Hu Shuli.jpg[edit]

Hello, Silverfish. An automated process has found and removed an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that was in your userspace. The image (Image:Hu Shuli.jpg) was found at the following location: User:Silverfish/Verifying Images (image version). This image or media was attempted to be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media was replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. Please find a free image or media to replace it with, and or remove the image from your userspace. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 08:25, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Bomberman.png)[edit]

Nuvola apps important blue.svg Thanks for uploading Image:Bomberman.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 14:22, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Blastcorps.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Blastcorps.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. After Midnight 0001 21:06, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Apbscreenshot.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Apbscreenshot.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 07:02, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

Dear User: IMPORTANT WIKI ARCADE GAMES PROJECT NOTICE[edit]

As you should be aware the wiki arcade games project has been marked inactive and with good reason. I am trying to increase the activity of this project but first I need to know who is still actually interested. So to find out I have put inactive next to the name of every person who has put them selves down as a participant of the project. If for whatever reason you do not intend to participate in the project anymore please remove your name from the participant list altogether. If you do but not in the near future leaving inactive next to your username will be helpful. Not taking any action at all will of course lead to inactive remaining against your name on the participant list. If however you have every intention on continuing in participating in the project please come change the "inactive" next to your username to "ACTIVE" so that it is clear who does and who does not still have interest in participating in the project. Thankyou for your time. --Hybrid360 (talk) 20:10, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Deletion of Book Page[edit]

The book has just been completed recently, my feelings are extremely hurt, and I am very angry and it is extremely hard for me to control myself right now and not personally attack you. However, with that said, I am 23 years old and I have a 3 year old son and my wife is 5 months pregnant. I have spent the last 5 years working on that book, and in less than 5 seconds I saw it torn apart by some random PERSON, you, on the internet from another country who wants to accuse my life's work of not existing. That page took more than a few minutes, why would I create it if it didn't exist? Your reasons for deleting something more important to me than anything right now, do not make sense. When I see a stranger walking in down town olympia and tell them I just got done writing a book, it will be for sale on amazon in a month or two, needs to finish printing before it can be marketed, and I give them the title, they will find a page with a bunch of people claiming it doesn't exist before they can even consider reading it. Nousoul

Firstly, this is not personal. I voted delete, as I could find no evidence, apart from your claims, that the book existed. Wikipedia is based on Verifiability, see the following link: [Wikipedia:Verifiability]. As Wikipedia is an encylopedia, it needs reliable sources to back up the claims it makes, so we cannot just take your word for it. Also, if the book hasn't been released yet, then it cannot be covered by Wikipedia. We also don't cover every book that has been released, see the notability policy for books: Wikipedia:Notability (books). When the book is released, and if you feel it meets those criteria, then (and only then), should an article be created. Finally, I recommend that you should take any of this personally. ArbCom elections are now open![edit]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Proposed changes to WWE Superstar[edit]

Hi, I noticed you were active on WWE superstar and was wondering if I could get your feedback on the changes I proposed on its talk page? I haven't done a lot of template editing and I'd appreciate a second opinion. Also, I'm not sure if there might be a conflict with your recent changes (though the test cases still look OK). Please have a look and let me know what you think at Template talk:WWE superstar. Thanks! - Reidgreg (talk) 12:27, 23 July 2016 (UTC)

Help desk post[edit]

Hello Silverfish, thank you for your good faith post at the help desk. But currently there seems to be no report about this information. As WP:BLP applies to all Wikipedia pages - and there has been a similar false rumor in April - I have removed the complete post just to be on the safe side for now, until the information can be confirmed or dismissed either way. Usually I leave good faith posts alone of course, but I hope you are OK with it in this specific situation. GermanJoe (talk) 18:34, 6 August 2016 (UTC)

NJPW profile template[edit]

Hey, just to let you know, NJPW has redone their entire website, so the links in the template no longer work. リボン・サルミネン (Ribbon Salminen)(ZOOM) 11:58, 10 November 2016 (UTC)

James Ellsworth[edit]

You need to back off and not be so rigid here. PWInsider has always been a reliable source. You come across as wanting things in blood...you need to ease up a bit and not be so freaking demanding. Attitudes like yours are what turn people off of Wikipedia...can't be "my way, all day, every day." Vjmlhds (talk) 03:23, 19 November 2016 (UTC)
